Thanks for posting, I was beginning to think I was going quite round the twist. Even that last post to you Blaccat 1, all one can sya is these chaps are brilliant at defending the indefensible, therefore should serve the colours, if not already doing so!

The main issue with Typhoon is how few of them there are. After all these years just 6 actual combat squadrons at just 2 bases. I remember the cold war plan was something like 5 bases! During the 1990s from memory it was going to be 232 Typhoons and 3 bases.

Now they follow all the eggs in one basket approach with just Coningsby and Lossiemouth.

If Tempest does go ahead I wonder how few of those there will be.

He was highly unlikely to say anything other than that given he was head of the Jaguar force at the time.

Ok wind your neck in it was the truth though , she was!

And yet none of this answers the original question regarding capability gaps. Jaguar’s withdrawal led to reduced mass but not a capability gap, unlike the aforementioned withdrawal of Harrier GR/ Nimrod/ Sentry.

I was just stating that Jag was at top of its game & had a few years left in her when she was retired. Didn’t expect a quarrel about it on this usually friendly forum
