F1 2024
Re: F1 2024
A good win for Max in the Sprint race, and a decent third place in the GP ahead of Norris keeps Max edging ahead in the Drivers Championship.

Re: F1 2024
I think the rules need to be looked at on the whole - Considering Lando made the pass beforehand but Max just threw it up the inside, broke late so he got the apex but then ran wide as well and escapes a penalty. It's flawed (though we've always known this). Especially when you look at the Russell penalty too.Ghastly Whisper wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 5:12 pmThats why the rule book does not suit that particular track. Its also designed for NASCAR who can and will make overtakes and undertakes on and off the track, particularly at the corners where everyone was getting the penalties. The rule book should be ammended just for this track, what other tracks can you push your oponent off the track and they get the penalty?James Cutting wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 3:20 pmAgree there, but I will say one thing - Max has gotten away with so much, and there should well have been penalties thrown his way during that race. If you can't be allowed to overtake off the track - because you were forced off - Can you be allowed to overtake on track if you push someone off the track?![]()
Re: F1 2024
I think back to Silverstone '21. Very different outcome but Lewis was given a penalty as it was deemed he was going into the corner too fast to make it properly. Thinking back to last week, if Norris had held back and Max went all four wheels off then would Max have had to given up the place has he left the track and gained an advantage?
They need bolt on sausage kerbs or something there so it stops this but can be removed for other series.
This is the line Indycar uses and they just all do it and get on with it.

Install spikes or something to give them a slow puncture

Re: F1 2024
The way I see it...
1) Leaving the track and gaining an advantage is an immediate (well, once the stewards have investigated etc) 5 second penalty.
2) Exceeding track limits is a totting up process - you'll get away with it a few times, but eventually the stewards will wave a warning flag at you, and any subsequent transgression will result in a 5 second penalty.
Lando's overtake fell into 1. Max's 'defense' fell into '2'. I don't particularly like it, but that's the way the rules are written, so that's the way the teams and drivers react.
My gut feeling is that Lando didn't give the place back because he hoped he would be able to get 5 seconds up the road ahead of Max before the finish, and thus nullify the penalty. Didn't work this time.

Re: F1 2024
Re: point 1 - he didn't leave the track by choice to gain said advantage. The issue was the fact he was forced off track, as Max forced him wide and he himself ran wide. So that's why it needs to be looked at IMO.
Re: F1 2024
The rule doesn't say 'by choice' and there is little doubt Lando did gain an advantage in doing so. Overtaking off track is a greater 'sin' than exceeding track limits and was always going to be penalised - There was no way Lando was ever going to get away it without incurring a penalty. The correct thing to do would be to give the place back, and then do *exactly* the same thing next lap. If you can force the other driver to exceed track limits 2 or 3 times whilst defending from you, then they are going to get a 5 second penalty after the 3rd or 4th occurrence.James Cutting wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 1:30 pmRe: point 1 - he didn't leave the track by choice to gain said advantage. The driver being "forced off" isn't going to get an "exceeding track limits" penalty if indeed they are deemed to have been forced off.

Re: F1 2024
Good to see Verstappen's driving hasn't changed since 2021 - He really is an awful driver when someone is matching him/bettering him. Norris needs to get his elbows even further out - but again, pushing Norris off track and then overtaking him off track...
Wow!! The FIA gave him a penalty!! Blimey

Another one! Sorry for spoilers, but when do we get to celebrate something like that
(the other Red Bull is just as bad)

Yes indeed, finally the stewards get it right, I bet Horner is spitting feathersJames Cutting wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 8:24 pmGood to see Verstappen's driving hasn't changed since 2021 - He really is an awful driver when someone is matching him/bettering him. If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!
Re: F1 2024
At last the F.1 'God' gets penalties.!!! Happy day!.
Re: F1 2024
Well that was fun. Glad to see Max get what he deserved. Who'd have thought at the start of the season we would have had 7 different winners? Trouble is that's the problem now and helping Max stay on top of the table. Where on earth has Ferrari's form come from. Need to see Max have a DNF, it's a miracle he hasn't had one given his driving style. Delighted for Sainz.

Re: F1 2024
Can't wait for this weekend, Brazil rarely disappoints and we get a sprint too. Given the relatively easy overtaking opportunity into T1 here Max should get mullered so makes sense they take an engine penalty. I'm going with the Ferrari's on pole again and taking the Sprint. The McLaren tends to come on later in the race so I'm going for a Norris win for the GP. He needs to take advantage and take a huge chunk out of Max this weekend. I still think it's a huge ask for Norris to take the Championship unless we get a DNF for Max. I'm loving the fact Max is crying about bias against him. Seriously?

Re: F1 2024
Really looking forward to this one, getting used to the idea of Lewis in a red suit now. Should be great for him next year!. I always wanted to go to this race, but never quite made it. Climbing out of Sao Paulo a few years ago, hoped to see the circuit. Wrong side of the aircraft.

Re: F1 2024
Well McLaren got really lucky in the sprint with the VSC at the end there. Max would have probably taken 2nd without that, although he'll be satisfied with 3rd overall.
Feel really sorry for Piastri being screwed out of the win though. Team orders eh.....

Re: F1 2024
Wow, they nearly messed that up. If you're going to give up the place don't muck about. I want Norris to take the Championship but it will feel a bit hollow if Piastri helps him much more. Fingers crossed for a VSC penalty for Max.

Qualifying delayed due to torrential rain and thunderstorms at the track.
