Hi Dave,
Nice report. Where was this CASA, and where did you view it from, please?

Hi Dave,
Ian -dollar99 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 5:42 pmThey say once a spotter always a spotterSo for the second time this year I departed Bristol on holiday only to find myself landing or departing with an interesting exercise going on!
Thanks to everyone for the lists so far, perhaps I may ask some questions, mainly out of curiosity?
On arrival 14/10 early evening there was a Salvamento Maritimo CN235-300 by the civil terminal and one departed 21/10 while I was waiting for my Jet2 flight. As I had never seen one before were they the same machine and did anyone record the reg? Also on 21/10 there was a Cavok Air An-12 sat on the ramp, again grateful for a reg if anyone can help.
Now on to the good stuff. I took a few scruffy phone pics through the glass on the exceedingly polluted viewing terrace to jog my memory, again this was 21/10 between 1600 and 1900. Portuguese CN235 taxied out and departed. There was a white tailed CN235 in the large hangar facing the civil terminal, would this be the one reported flying during the week? To the left of this hangar as viewed across the runway was a large ramp with a grey C212, which appears to be on the Google maps satellite image, then down behind the Turkish F-16s a grey 212 and a Mirage F1. Are these the reported preserved examples?
There were 3 Portuguese F-16s parked together then a row of hangars then the Greeks and Turks. In front of those hangars were 2 more F-16s, one looks to be a two seater but the pics are not clear enough to make out what country they were from. Any serials for these 5 please? Finally and a total long shot, as we taxied to the end of the runway 2 EF-18s were sat in the shed/hangar/QRA facility, I assume from Ala 46. Are the HAS's in use, one was open and didn't look in the best of nick?
For my next none aviation holiday I will pack some binos so I stand a fighting chance of recording something myselfIf anyone has photos of any of this stuff would love to see them.
TIA
Ian

I'm not there until March next year so I hope that the CASA, and the Mirage, weren't out on the ramp only for a short while in order to make room in museum hangar during the exercise.![]()

Thanks Stuart. it's 11 years since I was last out there, so I've to catch up on a couple of airframes.sschofield wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 7:38 pm[Freeman,
The Mirage and the CASA have been in the same positions for at least a couple of years. I'm not sure they are even ON the ramp, I think they are probably beyond it, but the topography of that bit of the base is difficult to figure out from the terminal side.
A Portuguese AF press release shows 2 special tail F-16s on the ramp at Gando, dated 23 Oct, 15105 and 15106.
