One thing is for certain, the place will be absolutely rammed - mostly with armchair experts & idiots. Don't think I'll bother
Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.

avoid making unnecessary trips
combine trips where possible
You should not stay away from home overnight for a holiday."
There is now no reason someone could not travel as far as they like in England so long as they do not try to stay overnight and comply with all distancing regulations.

Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
Well, If I am called selfish so be it, but after having to isolate and shield for the last year, which has meant hardly leaving the house for the last 4 months, and being busy with work from home, I have taken a few days off to celebrate a big lockdown birthday and we went for a drive yesterday to Lakenheath. The car park has been a no go for a while, too many people and not enough social distance for me, and we popped in yesterday to see it full of the usual and as soon as I saw kids kicking a football, we left. So we parked in the lay-by at the 06 end and took a stroll and a sit, all on our own, to see ( and wave off) the afternoon Reaper departures. We then went to the Warren Lodge and did a walk and had our packed lunch, watching the KC-135 and an amazingly low and fast approach from an Osprey, which looked amazing through the trees. I have to admit while I am aware that any breakdown in the car would unfairly have resulted in us having to call out the breakdown service, I know that I needed both this week off, and yesterday’s trip. Mentally it was the best medicine I have had in ages.

I see the Wooden Footpath sign has been re-erected at the entrance to the ' forbidden track ' near the burger van. The police didn't seem unduly concerned with ladders etc. I didn't bother going down there as you are shooting into the sun and instead read the tabors from near the visitors car park. Everyone seemed happy and well behaved and no issues.
I didn't realize the grassy path along side the tarmac track that leads to the church was a public footpath? Rumours are that the landowners are trying to buy the remaining land.

I would love to own that piece of land at the very end of that lane, right next to the fence. I have never understood why (on Google maps) it appears to be all so derelict. Couple of caravans and those buildings with the collapsed roofs. Is there restrictions in their ownership/occupancy because they are so close to the fence? Personally I would love to turn one of them into an Air B&B type rental, just perfect for the avaition enthusiast. The rest would be for day visitors, perhaps a cafe/ toilet and raised seating all for a small fee. Not sure the MOD would be happy with that but if outside the fence what could they do. No doubt the eventual owners will do the exact opposite and stick massive keep out signs on the land and be at constant war with the spotters.

I have often dreamed about what a great location for a bar/restaurant it would make - give it a trendy name some good food real ale , open air terrace for the summer nights - Liberty Nightz!Philly1971 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 1:06 pmI would love to own that piece of land at the very end of that lane, right next to the fence. I agree, an aviation themed bar with a proper US chef serving decent American food and you would be on to a real winner. If anyone hears that that land is for sale please post on here. Ok so if it’s got planning permission it will go for way too much, but if a small piece of land priced more at agricultural rates I would deffo be interested.

The old farm house and out buildings was sold a few years ago and the current owner isn’t a spotter.
Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
‘The current owner isn’t a spotter’
Neither were most of the ‘visitors’ to the car park, by the sound of it
SNAFU

Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
Also to add I believe the land was sold with a clause saying it can’t be used for a business purpose, ie spotters area/campsite as per ‘Johns field’ either style either.

Thought that was the case, Trev

It figures that the person who bought it isn’t a spotter. You have the whole country to live and you decide to live there! Hope they are miserable and hate every minute
Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
Quiet at the car park this morning. Incredibly there is a group standing beyond the no entry signs. Oh well.
Cheers

Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
Apart from the idiots, anything actually happening from a flying perspective or is that all quiet as well?
Re: Lakenheath spotters carpark
All quiet on the base as well, so it looks like a down day. HAS all closed up. National 747 about to depart but it looks like that could be it for base movements?

Down the track? Past the burger van? That point's been discuss previously, it's a public footpath.
