My friend is looking to visiting next week? Is it worthwhile? With the runway crack and the local Tiers etc?

I don't know but you would think they would be working on the gash/crack over the weekend?

Lakenheath should be in tier 2 so the shops and pubs are open ( for food) etc but I don't know what the new travel rules are in terms of distance - I would think traveling from Wales is pushing the boat out a bit but is it against the guidelines I don't know? Although is Wales in its own separate lockdown at the moment?

Obviously you must maintain social distancing which should be easy as I doubt there will be any one there apart from the occasional van driver on his/her lunch break!

Slogen thank you. We are out of lockdown , we can travel but as you say Cardiff-Lakenheath for a bit of spotting isn't necessary travel . I wouldn't do it especially this time of year . Only problem is down here , you can't get a pint or a whiskey in a pub!

oh pubs can stay open here but can't sell booze , I can see my local packed with everyone drinking coke (with flasks of brandy or whiskey smuggled in ) !! Hahaha . Oh and Drakeford has been banned from loads of pubs here!

Something for people to be aware of when travelling is that your car insurance may not cover you should you need to claim. My partner works at a body shop dealing with insurance claims and increasingly claims are being rejected where the journey couldn't be justified.

Won't a car rental company need to know what you're renting for? Surely they're bound by the same issue of insurance validity. Also, as a Brandon local, I would advise caution if walking along the A1065 to Lakenheath and back - at least the bit outside the town to the base. Personally I wouldn't be making the journey anyway but that's a personal opinion.

Ah yes missed that - a different notam down grading from a crack to a very long scrape.

If anything you should get a rebate from your insurance company for less miles on the roads.

Nighthawk I totally agree. I wouldn't travel all that way during the pandemic, especially on public transport! I'm cautious getting the bus locally let alone a train to London then onwards.

Opinions please. March 29th see's a little bit of relaxation in Covid restrictions. Greater freedom of movement ,providing we social distance and avoid large gatherings etc. Can we visit Lakenheath viewing area.? Its a 2 hour trip for me. So its a thumbs down, I'd rather stay home and walk the dog, rather than upset the proverbial apple cart.

My personal opinion is maybe if you are local since that is still the Government's guidance/advice. Actually I live local and I still won't be going but that is just me. The issue you will find is that so many interpret "local", along with other wording, to suit themselves.

My opinion is that you should wait two weeks and see what happens on April 12 :-

In England , holidays within the UK won't be allowed until 12 April at the earliest, depending on whether the government's conditions for beating Covid are being met.

If they are, people will be able to stay away from home with other members of their household, or bubble, in self-contained accommodation, such as a holiday cottage

The implication is that you can travel in the UK from 12/4 to a holiday cottage.

Note : Golf courses reopen soon for customers. Most people don't live next door to the club house so it would seem that a sensible distance is allowed.

To me the key points are don't car share outside of your bubble and obviously social distance.

Also there is nothing at Lakenheath worth traveling any distance for!

I see in Wales you can travel now within Wales but Scotland are in a 'stay at home lockdown' until 2/4 which seems weird to me

May I make a correction to the myth that the rules from 29th March state "local" travel only permitted; they don't, the following is what it says :-

"You should minimise travel where possible. This means you should:

avoid making unnecessary trips
combine trips where possible
You should not stay away from home overnight for a holiday."

There is now no reason someone could not travel as far as they like in England so long as they do not try to stay overnight and comply with all distancing regulations.
