Love it while we have got it. In 2025 we will look back and say the same about RIAT as we do about the Mildenhall Air fete . Will we get 9 F35's of 617 in a flypast?? what ever as long as it stays dry it will still be better than sitting at Johns field hoping that something will move.

Today's update, well.done the Italians

Today we are pleased to confirm nine separate static and flying acts from our great friends in Italy! In the air we will welcome the Frecce Tricolori display team, F-2000 Typhoon, T-346 jet trainer and the amazingly agile C-27J Spartan. Meanwhile the Italian Air Force will also be providing the Typhoon and C-27J on static display, along with a Tornado, HH-101 Caesar and HH-139 helicopters. Grazie Italia!

Well they certainly do a 'job' but perhaps I'm too old and cynical to deploy the superlatives. They run an efficient airshow operation but having a basic monopoly on multi-day UK military airshows it's hard to say whether they're doing better or worse than anyone else.

DBH get cushy treatment regarding attendees; as you say if an air arm declines they are given a pass ( 'oh it's not their fault, operational reasons' ). But if they score a rare attendee it's somehow credited to them! No, it's the air arm that deserves the credit.

I'm going this year because of the hype I've been fed for the past year about something special for RAF100. But so far, other than Su-22 and MiG-21, it's a grey-coloured 'meh'. I shall thank the Poles and Romanians for that splash of variety, not DBH.

But RIAT 2019? Highly unlikely. I've only been going since 2013 but regretfully feel I've seen all that's likely to appear.
grey-coloured 'meh'??

What about French Rafale, F-18's, Reds, Navy Rafales, Finnish NH-90...And more but I guess they are all grey :S :S

But find me an airshow that is on the level that RIAT is (In the UK) and none come close. With ongoing operations etc it's great what we can get. But you can't please 'em all. Don't like it, don't go, is my simple saying.

End of the day, it is what YOU make of it, not anyone else. I go because I enjoy it with my Father.
Well said mate

I wonder if one of the RAF F-35's will be added later on, with them flying across the pond next month ;) Still hopeful for RAF tornado too!

Never know what other aircraft will be added mind, closer to the date :)
If you look on flightline uk it says there is an raf f35 flying

Yes I think that's what I said too. And people are following that advice.

Going to RIAT costs up to £1000 all-in for people from the UK 'regions'. Put that in perspective, that's 130 hours of work at minimum wage. Nearly a month's labouring.

For that sort of money people have started to look abroad to shows like Radom and Sanicole and even Tiger Meets. That's what RIAT is up against, not Portrush Airwaves or Abingdon Air & Country Show.

Just shrugging and saying "that's what we can get" is no longer sufficient to earn my cash. So I'll be hitting DBH where it hurts, in the wallet.

Except it won't hurt them because the tickets will sell anyway. If you don't pay, someone else will.

£420 for Mach 2 FRIAT (x2 people)
£110 for 4 nights camping (x2 people)

That's just for the cost of RIAT itself. And it would be half that without FRIAT packages, so I don't think it's as bad as it could be. Granted, got to factor in food money, petrol, merch etc etc.

I think the "people starting to look abroad" (ie enthusiasts/spotters/whatever you want to call them) make up about 5% of the attendance, so I don't think RIAT will be worrying too much.
RIAT might be up against the Tiger Meet in your opinion, but not for the 95% of people that are just going for a day's entertainment, in the same way they go to the Grand Prix, Wimbledon, a concert, Glastonbury, the Chelsea Flower Show, etc etc....

I think there's a fighting chance that they'll survive that particular financial disaster.

Tom confirmed that they'd been in discussion with the flight about possible attendance, doubt they'll be at the show this year though. Always next year.
