DBH get cushy treatment regarding attendees; as you say if an air arm declines they are given a pass ( 'oh it's not their fault, operational reasons' ). But if they score a rare attendee it's somehow credited to them! No, it's the air arm that deserves the credit.
I'm going this year because of the hype I've been fed for the past year about something special for RAF100. But so far, other than Su-22 and MiG-21, it's a grey-coloured 'meh'. I shall thank the Poles and Romanians for that splash of variety, not DBH.
But RIAT 2019? Highly unlikely. I've only been going since 2013 but regretfully feel I've seen all that's likely to appear.
What about French Rafale, F-18's, Reds, Navy Rafales, Finnish NH-90...And more but I guess they are all grey![]()

But find me an airshow that is on the level that RIAT is (In the UK) and none come close. With ongoing operations etc it's great what we can get. But you can't please 'em all. Don't like it, don't go, is my simple saying.
End of the day, it is what YOU make of it, not anyone else. I go because I enjoy it with my Father.
If you look on flightline uk it says there is an raf f35 flyinglowlevelRAF wrote: ↑Mon May 14, 2018 5:50 pmI wonder if one of the RAF F-35's will be added later on, with them flying across the pond next monthStill hopeful for RAF tornado too!

Yes I think that's what I said too. And people are following that advice.James Cutting wrote: ↑Fri May 11, 2018 3:51 pm

I think the "people starting to look abroad" (ie enthusiasts/spotters/whatever you want to call them) make up about 5% of the attendance, so I don't think RIAT will be worrying too much.turmo wrote: ↑Tue May 22, 2018 9:38 amFor that sort of money people have started to look abroad to shows like Radom and Sanicole and even Tiger Meets. That's what RIAT is up against, not Portrush Airwaves or Abingdon Air & Country Show.
Just shrugging and saying "that's what we can get" is no longer sufficient to earn my cash. So I'll be hitting DBH where it hurts, in the wallet.
I think there's a fighting chance that they'll survive that particular financial disaster.turmo wrote: ↑Tue May 22, 2018 9:38 amYes I think that's what I said too. And people are following that advice.James Cutting wrote: ↑Fri May 11, 2018 3:51 pm

Going to RIAT costs up to £1000 all-in for people from the UK 'regions'. Put that in perspective, that's 130 hours of work at minimum wage. Nearly a month's labouring.
