Not trying to scupper anyone's plans etc., chances are increasing somewhat for some disruptive snow for quite a few.

I'd probably reconsider any cross-country journey Thursday into Friday, at this stage, unless of course urgent. Problems with this wintry spell are several fold. As snow depths are likely to increase rapidly due severity of cold, road conditions will deteriorate pretty quickly too. Add drifting, blowing snow. With day temperatures closer to freezing this wintry spell is going to be a notable one. Not the usual sleety wet snow, slush fest.

Good chance some will be building igloos by next week end, maybe before :pop:

Looking at a few recently released maps, it certainly looks like the South will be hit hard towards the end of the week.

Wrong type of snow? Must've been in Jan1987!

Jesting aside, some roads will become impassable. 30cm+ of powdery snow in strong winds can often have that effect. Take it easy out there, already snowing heavily in places tonight. Schools shut etc., tomorrow onwards.

I remember that one, Terry.

Tate & Lyle lost (i.e. could not locate) a couple of tankers (road haulage version) for a few days - totally buried in the snow.

Its snowing on The Wirral, we have at least 2 inches and the sky is full of it. My only concern is that we are due to go to a Russell Watson Concert in New Brighton on Thursday night the first of March. Hopefully Russell won't get snow bound on his way here.

Snowed quite a bit in Mid wales this morning. Now brightening up with glimpses of Blue Sky. Managed to get my "Weather Watchers" photo(our resident Squirrel in the Snow trying to eat some Bread we put out for the Birds but had frozen) picked by the editor.

Tonbridge Kent was almost a white around 9 this morning, some heavy blizzard stuff, stopped now. Got the 4x4 out to drive to work about 10.30, within 10 miles no snow at all, not even settled. Weird.

Snow showers now having a more convective element attached. Expect sudden whiteout to bright sun in minutes! Unless it is dark :ninja: Meanwhile if you think it is cold here check out Finse, Norway, direct where our big high pressure reigns.

Maxes tomorrow day hovering -20c, nearer thirty below at night. Windchill factor on top? Heavens above they'd love our conditions I'd expect, even if they too are proving a challenge sometimes. End of the week still tricky but in view of forecasts stay tuned, some parts are truth be told, going to get inundated with more of the white stuff. Drifting in strong to gale force winds, warnings a plenty.

A sweet outcome in the end and much relief then...groan ;)

I reckon similar pics could become stark reality on higher ground! Slightly newer vehicles mind.

Latest information from the Met seems to suggest the South West can expect around 20cm on Thursday and into Friday, with the possibility of another 0-15cm on Friday and Saturday.

Tomorrow the NE and maybe parts of Scotland. Snow and perhaps thunder in the mix.

Thunder snow reported already in the SE.

Latest update still on course for a notable if not historic spell of wintry weather and despite what the calendar may read. Expect red warnings, poss Thursday into Friday, SW quadrant. Likes of Brecons, Mendips, Dartmoor and surrounding areas initially.

A rare beast indeed ushering in frigid air colliding with a deeper low from Iberia. This is going to be some ride. Keep an eye on the elderly infirm and keep safe. During the worst quite frankly stay put!

Mundford , seven miles north of Lakenheath, has had about 4cm of snow overnight.

Shame I am retired as I now have an excuse for a day off.

Been snowing on and off nearly all day - up to 7 cm deep and crisp and even.

Bonny morning in the south Lakes. We had 2 and half" overnight of powder- shame there isn't a base, I'd have walked up onto the golf-course then skied back down to the Miles Thompson (JDW) for a few coffees! Better still, if I still had my Clan Crusader I'd have been up Kirkstone Pass. Min -5C, -1C an hour ago.
1972, I enjoyed -40F on the Arctic Circle while watching the Tunturriralli- fabulous day. The five(?) British entered cars froze up on the first day; not having the right additives in the mogas the mixtures became inert between the carbs and the cylinder-heads.

Decided to have a lunch meeting with colleagues in our favourite Italian.
Scheduled for 60mins from 12.
Blizzards started at 12:45, so we stayed and enjoyed the wine.
Taxis all round at 3:30pm
Collect the cars tomorrow.
Ah well, can't remember if we made any good decisions at all...hic

Fair to say it was a bit nippy out. Not often do we experience the current levels of windchill, more tomorrow?

No pretending blizzards are on the way for some, worst far from over. Although today's showers were potent enough they are only the tip of the proverbial iceberg, pun intended. Take it easy out there. Roll on spring :thumb:
