It's time again that somebody in that top position has a Forces background/history.
Too many times in the past have people been put in position where they have no first hand experience or knowledge to fall back on.
I'm aware we have CDS and other Senior advisors, but they are often ignored, or, worse still, totally shunned.
Tell me again why the Defence Sec MUST be an MP...
PS Fallon was a waste.
Critically observing Pension regulatory activity... :D

Lord West perhaps? At least he was a serving member of the Armed Forces.

I bet that he would relish the opportunity to sort out the Royal Navy. Then in his second month in office he could turn his attention to the Army followed by a couple of months dealing with the Royal Airforce (during the 100th celebrations).
All done and dusted by the time we leave Europe and have few allies.

Of course, I would offer my services but I do not have the relevant experience.

You don't need any experience.
Can be Minister of Health one week, Defence next, followed by Chancellor, with Environment slipped in if you fancy it. Look at the current Foreign Secretary.
And if you havn't had enough, PM job could be yours :)

Perfect! Over-qualified to be honest! Jobs yours then...Minister of State for the Department for International Development (and Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth) just in case you fancy some old Colonial holiday destinations? ;)

Theresa May appointed Gavin Williamson as new defence minister earlier. I hear cries of 'who?' Well you will have to Google him too!
Cheers

Gavin Alexander Williamson, former Chief whip, the man who took his pet Tarantula spider into the Houses of Parliament has the job of Defence Secretary. He has worked in the Staffordshire Potteries and his background is in architectural design.......... perfect for the job! :'( :halo:

He is well known for his appreciation of Skittles, Jaffa Cakes and Tunnock's Caramel Wafers.

He is also one of the Queen's loyal subjects, with a tattoo of the national anthem's lyrics on his buttocks. His favourite verse is that of "rebellious Scots to crush"

here's a big clue:

"Following David Cameron's resignation, Williamson "privately vowed" to stop the front-runner Boris Johnson from becoming Conservative Party leader. He assessed Theresa May to be the likeliest candidate to beat Johnson, offered his help to her, and was invited to be her parliamentary campaign manager."

Jobs for the boys and a supporter to help May stay in power.

Jem while I agree mostly with what you say what we are seeing called out now is men that abuse power either overtly or subtly. One of my best friends suffered from this and nearly lost her job when she complained, it took her a lot of strength and research into the bloke before the matter was closed to her satisfaction. Making a move or flirting isn't really the issue here.
