The cost of entry to the Embassy Air Tattoo in 1973 was around £15 - £20 if my memory serves me. At 2016 equivalents, that would be £166 - £221 :Wow: So, let us not gripe about the cost of basic tickets. If you want all the "bells and whistles" extras (multiple days, P&V arrivals/departures, Grandstands, FRIAT, etc), it is your choice to go super-expensive - so don't whinge at the price. It is stupid to expect the standard of a Hilton if you are putting up at a budget B&B.

I think your memory must be a bit lively - i remember them as costing a couple of pound.
To check, i dug out my 1979 IAT Programme with flyers inside - which state that entry to the show is £3 for an adult: £2.50 if bought in advance. So working on approx 11x more now as you were, would make it £33 (£27.50 in advance).

ITT: Absolutely f-all to do with aircraft, another Fairford thread that needs locking.

What is it about this section that means people insist on posting off-topic garbage?!

You do not need to join the dots for me.

Complete waste of bandwith, and time, in my opinion.

It started with a post about the height of a fence but has now degenerated into a ridiculous argument about who has money and who has no money. Probably best carried on on a political forum of some kind.

Go to pm's if you want to continue and leave us out of it.

Thanks

Trevor

Morning happy campers, another sunny day on FC, that friendly forum.
FYI.
The Reds are due to perform just before midday at RAF Cranwell.

Viewing possible for free, no fence worth speaking of, of course you need to be unemployed or retired to watch. Petrol is currently £113.9/l so transport will be less expensive than of late. Of course, that presupposes that an individual has the finance to purchase and run a vehicle

Rather than shut down this thread, how about moving it to General Chat? Several members post some real trashie comments in that section.

Bye the bye, if I purchase a Mach3 ticket for next year, am I also allowed to try out the farmer's field if I pay his entry fee?
Best wishes to all

That seems to cover it, though you didn't mention the word 'entitlement'. There are plenty of things I cannot afford, but rather than accept that as a fact of life, I am now going to assume that I am entitled in some way and spend a great deal of my time complaining about them. As a starting point what about those Faberge eggs? I'm really p*ssed off that they cost millions and want to know what those RIAT fatcats are going to do about it!

Those four U-2s were good to see though eh? Or is this the wrong forum for that stuff?

If you can afford to buy petrol at that price, nearly £114 a litre, then I'm sure for a small fee that the Red Arrows would be interested in displaying wherever you wanted them to!

Likewise Cornish Guy, if you don't like the answers you receive from your questions then don't ask. Several of your posts within this thread have been nothing but offensive to other members, and you have absolutely no right or place on this forum to tell other members that they are not welcome on here.

In August I'm going to watch Man City play, don't have a ticket but I'm sure it'll be ok if I climb up the drainpipe and sit on top of the stand for the duration or maybe just 10 mins.

& in the final minutes (hopefully?) of extra time, the scores remain level. This is surely going down to penalties! :pop:
PS:- The cost of any event is often compared to Premier League football prices. This means nothing to me, as I wouldn't sit through a 'Ballet with a Ball' for free!
....or even if there was a footpath next to it.

after reading all the why`s and what`s the do`s and dont`s , I personly think RIAT was about the worse show for static acraft ever, too many private types for what is suppose to be a military airshow. plus in my opinion its more of a business for corporate companies, as for all the talk about so call freeloaders taking their safety in there own hands by being oustside the airfield, what about the village people in the area, they have no say in the matter on their safety,

A very dull idea this was, people running over the road, jumping on the barrier and taking photos, then jumping down straight into the road,H&S well sorted there, well done RIAT! As for freeloading, i pay for Fri/Sat and Sunday in the show and a campsite for a week, where this freeloading crap comes from i don't know, also remember some people love planes, but just can't afford a ticket. I won't pay for park n view ,it use to be 2quid in the good old days when the airshow was massive,15quid now ....No thanks...

My kids moan when I take their toys away because they are unsafe to play with... they cry and whinge for at least 2 minutes, until i give in and give them back and they get hurt, then the crying lasts a whole lot longer.

Then I read this forum and have to put up with it all over again - but it goes on for months dragging unrelated stuff in slating the organisers.

Seriously - the organisers did it for a reason, not to spite you personally. Get over it, it will be more severe next year.... unless you don't want an airshow to see because they can't get insurance, or pilots refuse to fly. RE: villagers, they don't need to have a say as they aren't flown over at <50-100ft... at the end of the approach to take off or land?

Anyone respecting (note respect) the 100m crowd line to watch outside would be fine, the only problem is those who transgress that threshold are endangering themselves and the future of the airshow - hence the fence... just for a better view!

And is it even there today? If not, why is this thread even still open? OR move it to RIAT so this remains actually to do with RAF Fairford.

I don't see how being disabled has been brought into this section. Most shows have special disabled areas. I have no experience of the one at Fairford, I normally go on my own, but my disabled wife does come to Yeovilton with me. Where the disabled area has plenty of seating and tables, with plenty of people on hand to help if so needed. I expect the same applies for Fairford. I am my wife's full time carer which the government feel fit to pay me £62 a week, yet I paid my full earlybird entrance price, I took my own food and drink so apart from the fuel getting there, that was my outlay for the day. All I n all good value for money for the full days entertainment that was provided. I class RIAT as my one day's holiday a year and I hope to keep going for many years to come and not from outside the fence.
