Lynx Farewell Tour
On Friday 17th March four Lynx Mk 8 from 815 Naval Air Squadron will conduct a farewell flypast around Southern England. The route and timings can be found below so let's see this faithful old War Horse off in style!
For those wishing to view the flypast from The Helicopter Museum at Weston-super-Mare, we will be open on Friday 17th March from 0900. I would recommend arriving by 1000. See you there!

Re: Lynx Farewell Tour
Thanks for the heads up - I'd have liked to have seen this but I'm not in London next Friday. Always liked the Naval Lynx - I remember making a few Airfix versions - tricky little oh fudge if I remember rightly! :-)
Re: Lynx Farewell Tour
Let's hope that the weather is kind.
Hopefully, I'll get some pics as they come up H3, at about 14:00l.

Re: Lynx Farewell Tour
They're scheduled to depart Odiham East/NE to Isle of Dogs, follow Thames westerly & down H3. Should pass your location circa 14:30 if on time, with good light if there's any to be had?

Re: Lynx Farewell Tour
Yes, it's not all that clear from the map, is it?
At first glance, it appeared to me that the route was H4/H10 towards Northolt, for the return leg.
Outbound from Odiham might route towards Guildford, then follow the A3. Maybe via Banstead, then H7 to Barnes and H4 to Isle of Dogs?
One or two more reference points on the map would have helped.
They don't always follow the heli-lanes across London, though!

Re: Lynx Farewell Tour
With the current weather predictions for Friday, we probably don't need to worry. Just about the only thing to fly past will be umbrellas in the wind & rain!
But hey, it's only Monday. Things could change...like the day they do it for starters?

Re: Lynx Farewell Tour
I would expect a notam to be issued in the next few days for the route the Lynx intend to take for the farewell flypast. So that'll give you a better idea of the exact route and timings Skymaster.Skymaster wrote:Yes, it's not all that clear from the map, is it?

Re: Lynx Farewell Tour
I'm sure there was a notam for the Junglies farewell flight last year, so would expect the same for the Lynx.
Re: Lynx Farewell Tour
Heard yesterday, that from the Isle of Dogs, these will route over Northwood HQ on return leg....
Re: Lynx Farewell Tour
Supposedly a Culdrose Merlin HM2 as camera-ship too, which from SBS may be ZH851 which appears to be inbound VL at the moment.

...........so not flying down the Thames then ?
Re: Lynx Farewell Tour
My original assumption might be correct, then.
Inbound to London, following the M3, then East on H3, H4 to Isle of Dogs, then West via H4, H10 to Northolt, but then North on H9 and beyond?.

Re: Lynx Farewell Tour
Yes,still along the Thames westbound!....what I heard is that they will route from Isle of Dogs westbound along Thames, towards Perivale and Northolt, whereby they will dogleg north to Northwood, then from there, return back towards Iver to pick up westbound heli lanes again.....info apparently from Northolt ATC,via "guy on the fence"yesterday!!!
Re: Lynx Farewell Tour
From Iver, they could go West on H10, or South on H2 and cross Heathrow, then H9, H3 West.
