Swedish Air Force Historic Flight has RIAT provisionally listed on their website, RIAT put out a reply on Facebook saying they weren't attending but that has been removed.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
It'd be good to see the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight again. They were becoming regulars at Waddo
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
Agree, can't see it happening though, to be honest.
They're listed to bring the Viggen, Tunnan, Lansen, SK60 & 2x Draken.

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
Only a 'sea change' of CAA requirements would ever see them display in the UK again, especially as the Shoreham Report due out next week??, will reinforce.....
Or the SAFHF change their stance on NOT providing the correct CAA required pilot, aircraft & display certification!!

Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
Copied from a topic about RIAT 2016:- RIAT is run too MAA rulings, not CAA. Does this still apply and if so how does it effect the Swedish Historic Flight?
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
I don't see why the SAFHF wouldn't be able to display some their jets at RIAT. Last year the Mig-15 displayed at a number of UK airshows, albeit it was restricted to flybys only and no aerobatics. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Mig-15 classed as an historic aircraft?..........Although I can see the issue arisings with the SAFHF not being able to display all their jets, as the Viggen & Drakken have afterburners, which is obviously an issue for the CAA or MAA.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
Would be amazing to see a viggen back at the show, I always looked forward to seeing the splinter camouflaged ones at fairford each year.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
Difference is, the Mig-15 pilot has a DA for the UK, I believe the SWAFHF don't currently hold one.tj1978 wrote:I don't see why the SAFHF wouldn't be able to display some their jets at RIAT. Ah right, I see MRTT. Well thats certainly going to put a spanner in the works if they're planning on coming over then.MRTT wrote:Difference is, the Mig-15 pilot has a DA for the UK, I believe the SWAFHF don't currently hold one.tj1978 wrote:I don't see why the SAFHF wouldn't be able to display some their jets at RIAT. Aren't all the pilots military and as they have displayed here before what is the issue
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
No, the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight is not a Military organization, hence why their aircraft are on the Civil register.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
I see Fallon offered the Cypriot Defence Minister Christoforos Fokaides and the Cypriot Air Wing the chance to attend RIAT during his recent visit
Would be great to see something won't hold my breath though

Wouldn't mind seeing their Mi-35.
Re: Royal International Air Tattoo 2017 Discussion Thread
Booked my early bird tickets up in January to attend my second RIAT after coming for the first time last year. Looking forward to the thunderbirds, although I do hope that the mass of F16 and Typhoon from last years show are broken up a bit. Would love to see a Tonka flying about! Hope the Osprey returns as I missed that display last year and would of course love the USAF to bring something really special over as its their special year.
I do aim to give the static more of a look around this year, really skimmed it last year in the break between the fast jets. A part of that is an earlier start though

Me too, we're lucky to get a static now. It wasn't too long ago that they used to perform a duo pyro show. Those days are goneTwo66 wrote:Would love to see a Tonka flying about!

No update in terms of confirmed aircraft this week. However the list has been updated to reflect air arms of which discussions are ongoing, and also 22 chiefs will be in attendance this year.

There’s lots going on behind the scenes this week with the Air Tattoo team attending the EAC Convention 2017 in Malta! This gathering of the European airshow industry will produce lots of discussions and we will have an update for you next week and hopefully more aircraft to confirm.
For now, we can confirm that 22 Chiefs will be in attendance at the show, double the number confirmed this time last year, and we’ve also updated our invited nation's list, showing which countries we are in on-going discussions with! View the list here: bit.ly/2mfXyFR #RIAT17
