No need for a bucket & spade at Holbeach !!!

Post by eagle1 » Thu Aug 11, 2016 5:00 pm

I took a chance and went to Holbeach on Tuesday. About 30 minutes after sitting in a comfortable chair I was pleased to hear Jackal 11 & 12 checking in for a dry strafe..... :thumb:

Shortly after that, I was pleased again, this time to hear Monster 11 check in for a hot strafe and it certainly was hot. Wow what a great sound of the cannon firing away as it went overhead
The controller reported that the pilot was short and to the right. Monster 11 came round for another try and fired again, only to be told he was even shorter but more to the centre
I was beginning to think if he gets much shorter then these photos will never make it onto FC :( . I was also getting a very rough idea of how those war correspondents must feel in the Middle East

The fun wasn't over yet, as Monster 12 came out to play and then so did Marham 50, so overall I had a great couple of hours :thumb:

Thanks for looking (in no particular order)

Ah, my last tour as a controller.

Excellent shots. Surprised you didn't end up showered with spent round casings!

Hi Martin
It has been a long time since I have visited Holbeach.
Great set of images that really tell a story.
All the best

I thought the spent casings and links on the Tornado were recycled into a bin behind the gun?

You're right Thunder - the spent cases from the Mauser 27mm cannon are retained in the aircraft on both Tornado & Typhoon. Lardyboy - you're obviously thinking back to the happy days of Jaguar strafe at Holbeach! :P
