Yeovilton gate guards
Yeovilton gate guards
On holiday in that neck of the woods in a couple of weeks. Looking to visit the FAA Museum. What are the chances of getting some snaps of the gate guards (and anything else of interest) whilst there?
Re: Yeovilton gate guards
Hi Thumper,
Thanks for the useful information and advice. Will see what I can depending on time and willingness of the family to 'humour' me. Will be staying near Charmouth for a week so it's not a long run up to Yeovilton.
Cheers
Steve

Be warned, the Sea Hawk Thumper posted above isn't there any more (well wasn't when i was there last). There is also a Wessex visible from near the base entrance, although not photograph-able, and a Gazelle just visible opposite the FAAM cap park entrance.

The Sea Hawk in his pic is the one in the dump.

Re: Yeovilton gate guards
To update this, I visited the FAA Museum on 30-6-2019 and noted the following gate guards:-
Main Gate
Sea Harrier FA2 'ZD578 / 122'
North side of road opposite main gate
Lynx AH7 'XZ670 / A'
Lynx HMA8 ''XZ728 / 326'
A further 'Navy' Lynx was noted on display between office / accommodation buildings on the North side of the road between the Lynx pair and the Cobham area. It is facing away from the road.
Does anyone have an ID for this?
I wasn't able to stop in the area due to the roadworks / traffic lights, so I also couldn't confirm the presence of the Wessex which should be further on base behind the SHAR
Cheers

Hi Alan,
Thanks on i/d's of Lynx gate guards.
Too much going on to spot anything else as very busy in the road works but on a quick look heading back through later I'm sure the SHAR was coded '000'!
Any ideas?
Cheers, Rob

Two sides to any story. Isn't one side painted in 800 Sqn colours and the other 801?Crus8der wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2019 4:32 pm31.07.19
