Always possible when the "Ike" deploys later in the year.

This article in todays Guardian refers to the Presidents visit next week.
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/201 ... m-uk-visit
So if as previously reported, it will follow the Saudi appointment on the 21st, arrival would look like 22nd,23rd.

However .... viewtopic.php?f=342&t=129078
reports that the 3 Presidential support Osprey's (with tankers) are repositioning from Lajes to the Hall tonight.
If that is the case, could it indicate UK visit before Saudi?

Possibly just stopping for an over-night at Mildenhall before going onto Saudi

HMX-1 operate the following

VH-3D x 11
VH-60 x 9
MV-22 x 12

So they could easily have a/c at both locations.

"Possibly just stopping for an over-night at Mildenhall before going onto Saudi".

Take your point, but they only arrived in Lajes yesterday afternoon from St. Johns in Newfoundland (stopover).
That would be a strange routing to Saudi?

On Thunders point, clearly correct :thumb:

It's just that the only deployment we seem to be aware of at this moment is these three (plus the c130 tankers).

The VH-3s will probably be replaced by S92s.

As for the MV-22s, they replaced some CH-46s that came here in 2011, and also some CH-53s for the support role.

Sorry, had brain freeze there, completely forgot they had routed from Lajes even though I had just read it

Just had another think about the arrival, we should see the Reach flights come in with Tango at the end of the callsign.
These are used for support of the visit ie. the motorcade and other things

There are now 2 S-92 x airframes have been accepted into the VH-92A program and expected fthe first properly configured VH-92A is to fly sometime in 2017. Planned entry of the VH-92A is 2020.

cheers

Not always used though. For example, President Obama's visit to the UK in Sept'14 saw 17 POTUS related C-17 visits to Fairford (involving 12 a/c) - only one used a "Tango" at the end of its c/s.

If that is the case then that almost certainly means arrival earlier that Friday 22nd. Possibly very late 21st, POTUS is in Saudi on the 21st according to his schedule.

During Obamas last state visit a police formation callsign included Marine 1 and other US helicopters was used when they arrived at Stansted to pick up the president

Marine One is the presidential VH60 or VH3 call sign .. and only when the president is on board ... much like Air Force One
