Tim Laming (McClelland)

Post by Vulcanone » Sun Nov 08, 2015 10:17 pm

I have found out from several sources some naturally upset and shocked, that the author Tim Laming (McClelland) sadly died on Friday.

I first met him when he briefly worked with us at Aerospace Publishing in the 1990s

I think I went flying with him in a Hawk a million years ago at Valley, would that have been when he was working with you? I might even have a copy of the magazine article somewhere.

I used to thoroughly enjoy his photos that he'd post on this forum. He will be missed by me.

He could always turn out some great books ...rattling off a long and very envious list of aircraft types in which he had flown...was always producing some memorable photo shoots ......not much he didn't know about aviation.....

I think he was Sheff wasn't he?

I didn't always agree with his views but he wrote them very eloquently. A loss to the aviation world.

Wow. This is a big shock to me. I hadn't spoken to Tim for a while but we would exchange emails regularly 4/5 years ago and had the odd meet at Coningsby. His books were great, namely his Vulcan book.

Rest in peace, Tim. A loss to the aviation world.

That's very sad news, all of Sheff's FC posts can be found here :- memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=958

Does anyone know if Tim's death has been confirmed yet?

Hadn't spoken with him in a good while, is indeed a shock if confirmed. That autographed book still has pride of place my friend. :(

Several ex publishing editors and some other contributors have messaged me with the news so I take it as confirmed

Only just caught up with this sad news, and yes, it is a bit of a shock. I never met Tim, but exchanged views with him via FC posts. In this medium, he could certainly be prickly and provocative. I know some found his style too confrontational at times and I understand why. I believe the administrators tried to rein him in on a few occasions, and, after a while, his posts seemed to fade away. Which was a pity, because although I did not always agree with him, I did so more often than not, and have to say that overall the knowledge and thought that went into his posts meant that I have since missed hearing his views on the significant issues, whatever they may have been.

From tributes above, it seems he was a good guy to talk with, and I might just have found the same too had I had the opportunity. That's not going to happen now. 53 is just way, way too early.

Enjoy it while you've still got it folks.

Very sad news. In the early '70s I travelled over to Sheffield as he had organised for me to present a slide show of Lightnings in an upper room at a pub for the local modelling club.
Caught him at the Crash Gate at Binbrook a couple of times.
Condolences to his family and friends

Well said Hertsman , 53 very young, I lost my Uncle Alan last year, he used to contribute here under my name , just 1 week from being diagnosed with Leakemia and passing away just 1 week later, 2 days after his 57th birthday. Total shock.

RIP Tim - no amount of differences of opinion can take away the bookshelves you filled over the years.
