Thanks for posting that link. I saw some Aircrew wearing that patch at Yeovilton Air Day but never saw any for sale so it is great to be able to get one now. Mine is on order now. I am not sure my wife was so thrilled though as I ended up ordering some shirts from that website too.

I have been a collector for 25 years and I have never seen it this bad. The Internet and eBay are definitely a double edged sword. They are great for trading and learning about different units and patches but they are also bad in that there are inflated values springing up due to demand and sone greedy collectors/profiteers. It's unfortunately a trend I see that is only getting worse. Direct from the units, airshows, and trading are the way to go. This trend is no where more in evidence than 494th FS and 493rd FS patches. For some reason these two units more than others in the USAF seem to command high prices. Not sure why. But hey ho it's a "hobby" right?

Ebay often throws up big amounts . Worldwide audience basically

I've been wanting the 56th RQS patch they had done to remember the crash victims , two have come up on ebay and one fetched over £100 !

buying from the crews is the best way certainly. It's a bit more of a buzz looking round them and speaking with the guys selling them.

I have a patch that the aircrews were selling at yeovilton air day when the us navy diverted there. Exercise Norlant I think it was without looking. I imagine this to be fairly rare. Anyone else have one of these ?

Todd,
I think you hit the nail on the head with one word. 'Trend'. I have been collecting for 30 years and that's what you see, trends. Fighter stuff used to be expensive, then it went to special ops, and now it seems lakenheath. I've posted in the past about cost and the internet, but the availability of hard to get patches comes at a cost, but the availability only come easily through the internet. I know/knew a few people that would help out collectors but it seems like some (certainly not all) are out to make as much £$ as they can.
I used to collect a lot, but now I just select a few, I think the internet has unfortunately killed the hobby, especially with fakes/ high costs. Try to weigh the pros and cons and I'd have to say I don't know where I'd sit. In the middle/on the fence! I certainly wouldn't have the bits I have in my collection if it wasn't for the internet, but I may have a few more pounds in the bank.
