Looking at the list of KC135's the odd-man-out is a solitary KC135T.
Curious to know the difference I looked it up in Wikipedia, which shows that KC135R's are re-engine KC135A's or E's, whereas the KC135T is a re-engine KC135Q; the version of the tanker specially adapted to take the JP7 fuel unique to the SR71 Blackbird.
But maybe you knew that. I do too now!

Does anyone know what happened to KC135 10306, did a tour around it a while ago?
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Hi all,

As I understood it, the KC-135T model is air-refuellable (i.e. it can take on fuel from other tankers), whilst the rest of the fleet isn't. Not sure if that's correct, but would welcome any thoughts either way!

thanks

Stuart, only KC-135R(RT)s can take on fuel, of which there is only eight, all with the 22nd ARW.

Ah, I knew there was a "T" in there somewhere! In which case I'm still none the wiser? What's special about McConnell that they need that capability?

They could drag special ops aircraft a very long way using just those tankers, without having to stop off en route :)

Afternoon all,

With the recent arrival of MC-130J 12-5757, is that now 5 aircraft on strength, or have I missed any? (I have 10-5714, 11-5731, 11-5733, 11-5737 and 12-5757). Also, how many CV-22s are slated to be based altogether?

thanks

Stuart

Add 12-5759 and 12-5760 delivered 11 Dec and 7 Dec respectively, and supposedly 11-5729 and 12-5761 to come shortly.

Just a point of interest that I noted - based KC135R 64-14837 was delivered to the USAF on 16th December 1964 - she's 50 today
