Finally, with runway 07R close to the ramp being in use today, caught on go around was VT-86/CTW-6 T-45C 163624/F-618. Unfortunately the Navy's final T-39 Sabreliners were retired in August, with the T-45 taking over with the unit...

Next up, Eglin... :thumb:

Ahh, is that what that 'thing' is! Haven't researched these shots yet, hence no captions. Interesting to just read about the F6U.

Cheers guys :thumb:
Managed to arrange special access here and spent an hour or two around the back (could have done with even longer!). Really friendly folks here.
Another shot of the F6U-1 Pirate, the only survivor from the 33 built in the late 40's. Restored by the Vought Aircraft Heritage Foundation in Grand Prairie, Texas, it arrived here in 2012.

Cheers Andy. A first for me, had to look that up as well! Its a Sikorsky CH-37C Mojave, which was the largest helicopter in the West when delivered in the mid-50's. It was Sikorsky's first twin engined chopper, and one of the last to use piston engines, so had a short service life. Around 6 of the 154 built survive.
