Out for a stroll…Really?
Re: Out for a stroll…Really?
Who's died???
Re: Out for a stroll…Really?
In my job I quite often have to deal with the local press and more often than not what you say to them and what is printed is very different. Maybe things could have turned out better and in hindsight I'm sure Craig may have done things another way, but as an old boss once said ''The person that has never made a mistake has never made anything''. Craig is a top bloke and a skilled photographer, I think it's about time to get off his back and concentrate on the things that make this forum great, like helping each other in this hobby that we are all passionate about.

Nothing like a bit of jealousy mingled with some very selectively high horses to generate some quite harsh comments over a nothing story. No harm done Craig.

Re: Out for a stroll…Really?
I agree - what is the big deal - no apology required in my opinion.
I do not read the Daily Mail (I did however read the original link). The article looks harmless in my opinion and includes a dramatic picture of a RAF tonka thundering through the valleys.
What is the problem in making a bit of beer money out of your hobby?

Re: Out for a stroll…Really?
Life is too short for all this hot air.
We all make mistakes in life and Craig’s put his hands up to this one. I’m sure he’ll put it down as an experience he’d rather not repeat and stay clear of journalists!
There are now hundreds of ‘Fighter Controllers’ (a testament to much behind-the-scenes hard work and good board-moderation), a small minority of folk have had a whinge here.
I for one Craig will continue to look forward to your future contributions on FC.
Paul.

Can't believe the reaction to this, had to check I wasn't on U**R. Appalling reaction to someone trying to raise money for a good cause. Well done Craig.

Re: Out for a stroll…Really?
Read this thread and the article from the paper with it and wasn't going to add, but come on?.....whats all the fuss about? can't for the life of me work out why the poor guy is getting slated....took an excellent shot of a low level Tonka, tried to raise a bit of money for help for heroes, the article itself seems fine to me for a newspaper....lighten up everyone before the site ends up like other forums with little clicks of people and in house slanging matches.

Keep those shots coming Craig so the Richard Heads who carp and complain can see how it should be done

Re: Out for a stroll…Really?
And apart from Craig, who's business is it anyway.......?
Re: Out for a stroll…Really?
This forum, as well as every other in the internet, would be very quiet if everyone took that mentality. What an odd statement.stevep22 wrote:And apart from Craig, who's business is it anyway.......?

Re: Out for a stroll…Really?
I think that the issue is getting twisted into something else. Whenever low flying images get published in the rags the story gets twisted into something ridiculous which often means jets avoiding the loop for a while - low flying, after all, is a very touchy subject for the locals who live underneath it. With the little traffic through the valleys these days this can have a massive impact when you're stood on a hill freezing your n*ts off! Craig has been conned and has said sorry and that's the end of it for me. Hopefully this won't affect any future low flying activity. I just hope that people sending low fly images to papers (for whatever good intentions) will think about the potential damage that this could cause for others who enjoy the hobby. Good luck to all those up in the hills this week.

Re: Out for a stroll…Really?
I'm not even sure why Craig is apologising here, he hasn't published the story, the worlds worst newspaper (best fish and chip paper) has spun it into something completely different. Unfortunately threads like this are starting turn people off this forum with their bizarre, over the top negativity and slating without hearing the other side of the story. Come on guys, get back to what this forum is for, talking about aviation and posting/critiquing pic's, not laying into people constantly...........................

This is why, I would expect:
lloydh wrote:I'd also wager that most people criticising Craig also aren't jealous but simply annoyed at the fact someone who has been shooting LL for a few years would be as naive to sell images to an agency/newspaper. Craig was vocal on another forum when another persons images ended up splashed across the rags, so slightly hypocritical on that basis

You don't need to be a regular out and about in the low level haunts to know what the state of play is there. You also don't need to be a regular reader of the DM or the other toilet papers to know the previous uproars that have occurred from sensationalist stories regarding the low-fly/RAF in general. And has been stated elsewhere, this is someone who is apparently very familiar with them there valleys. With all told, it's certainly a more than foolish action, regardless of any apparent 'good faith'.
History never repeats yada yada...
Re: Out for a stroll…Really?
The most annoying aspect of this article for me is that they keep referring to the fact the Tornado is on a flight from RAF Marham in Norfolk when quite clearly it is a 41sqn special tail from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. Very poor reporting.

todays Metro rather than today’s Metro, mis-spelling rather than misspelling, and sirname rather than surname.
Four if you want to capitalise Illiterate.
Only bothered to really look because the end comment drew attention to spelling.
