Post by lrv890 » Sun Jun 29, 2014 7:43 pm

Hi All here are a few of the photos from the incident at Shuttleworth today , fortunately Dodge wasn't injured but I can say the same for Dixie
Hopefully she can be repaired and will be gracing the skies again soon

An amazing set of pics, I was there myself but at the other end of the field.
Glad the pilot walked away unharmed, and I do hope Dixie can be repaired.
Do you know how it happened ?

I can offer some pics from an additional angle. Prior to the aircraft rapid decent smoke plumed from the engine which continued whilst the aircraft was over the horse paddocks. The left wheel stuck a fence on the boundary destroying the gear which caused the aircraft to dig in and flip onto its nose when it contacted the runway. The aircraft had stalled out by that point as well and was dropping like a stone.

I thought he had hit the gate itself but it looks more like he hit the gate post

I have been in contact with the Shuttleworth Collection and they are grateful if anyone has any photographs or video of the incident could they forward them to them to assist with the accident investigation. Their point of contact is Ciara Harper, ciara.harper@shuttleworth.org.

Their is a video clip posted on here or over on UKAR.
Looked at this vid this morning, did look like it hit the end of the 5bar gate.
viewing the vid and the engine sound plus the smoke from the exhuast would suggest some kind engine misfire.
or engine advance or retard issue . Loss of power on and off just before the gate.
guess all we come out in the report thou.
