Simply Electronics - Too Good to be True?

Post by Northolt Nobbler » Sat Apr 26, 2014 7:07 pm

Evening All,

Looking at the possibility of buying a Canon 7D and noticed that the price quoted by Simply Electronics is £200 cheaper than the next lowest price.

Has anyone had any dealings with this company or is it simply too good to be true?

Cheers,

Lee

It's a Hong Kong based company despite the UK looking web site.

A quick Google search and buyer beware http://www.trustpilot.co.uk/review/www. ... ronics.net

I bought my first camera from them about 3 years ago and it was a mistake! I did eventually get the camera but it took a month and several emails from me to elicit the required response!

I would say that if you are prepared to wait a long time to save some money then you should be ok but if there is any reason why you don't really NEED to use them, then don't!

Hi

I've just changed to a Canon - did a fair bit of research and eventually bought the camera from Panamoz, and lenses from both Valuebasket and Portusdigital. I looked at Simply Electronics, but was put off by the many poor reviews online.

My experience was Panamoz and Portusdigital both very good to deal with and quick. Valuebasket terrible - took ages and eventually (after 2 weeks) got a refund.

My advice would be don't go with the cheapest deal without proper research - particularly make sure that the prices quoted don't exclude some additional charges on delivery, and pay by credit card - you've got more rights/redress if something goes wrong, especially if you've not dealt with that company before

I attempted to buy a 7D off of there. Few years ago now, I'd just saved enough money through working part-time and remember being massively excited about ordering it. However, I attempted to order it and there was subsequently a warning message saying something like 'could not complete transaction' which was complete trash because I looked at my account straight away and the money had gone. So I got on the phone to them and they refunded my money about 5 days after.

So all in all I would definitely suggest that you steer away from them! Eventually ordered my 7D off of Amazon. Even that went South when I opened the camera, put the battery in and an error message appeared on the top panel LCD :@. Had to send it back then eventually about a month after I initially ordered the thing, I finally ended up with one that worked :thumb:

I ordered a Lens from Simply Electronics, they said it would be there in 3-5 days. I gave it 7 days and nothing so mailed them, got an email back saying sorry it will be with you shortly. this went on for a few weeks until I called them and they promised me it was in the post, nothing turned up for the next 2 weeks so I called then in the end, got a Japanese person on the phone and told them I wanted a refund which she could not do without the boss being there! utter crap. after about 20 minutes of arguing I told her where to stick the Lens. The only way I got my money back was to get in touch with skrill (who handled the payment) and they refunded me in about 10 minutes. the morale of the story? never use Simply Electronics as they are a bunch of thieving scumbags
The last time I saw an F22 at Lakenheath i DIDN'T photoshop it...

For my 5D3 I used HDEW Cameras. UK company based in Croydon area. It was a grey import but they back it up with a warranty arrangement with a Canon specialist. Much cheaper than an official import.

I agree with that! Got my 100-400 & 24-105 from HDEW. Good price, good service, can't complain really!

Gents,

Thanks for the feedback.

I ended up buying the camera from Positronics Market via Amazon - £794 with them compared to anything up to £967 through Amazon themselves.

Ordered on the Thursday night and was delivered six days later as forecast - can't fault them at all.

I've used HDEW several times and would use again wothout hesitation. UK based, have a shop and first class service. You can call them to discuss and check stock before ordering!
