Re: BBMF Lancaster
No it is not for Operation manna, which was in the Western part of the Netherlands. Lanc will perform flypasts today in Eastern & southern parts of The Netherlands.Gadget Man wrote:Possibly to commemorate operation Manna
Operation Manna and Chowhound took place from 29 April to the end of World War II in Europe on 8 May 1945. These two operations–Manna by the Royal Air Force (29 April – 7 May) and Chowhound by the U.S. Air Force (1–8 May)—dropped a total of over 11,000 tons[1] of food into the still-unliberated western part of the Netherlands, with the acquiescence of the occupying German forces,[2] to help feed civilians who were in danger of starvation in the Dutch famine. When this proved insufficient, Operation Faust was launched as well. On 2 May, 200 Allied trucks began delivering food to the city of Rhenen, behind German lines.
4th May is Memorial day in the Netherlands, 5th May we celebrate liberation.

Re: BBMF Lancaster
Yesterday I received the following information about the flypast from a friend in Belgium, which explains part of the visit:
“Tomorrow we will be attending a memorial at the airfield of Malle. This is the 70th anniversary of the Lancaster crash of Goodmann - a pilot of 103 Squadron. Sadly the whole crew died and a few years ago we erected a memorial for them..... And the BBMF Lancaster will be coming over !”

Our thanks to joost900 & to the people of Uden for their continued care over our crews who rest there.

There's no "go-round" in a glider.

Re: BBMF Lancaster
As part of the booking process event publicity is mainly left with the event organisers, who have to decide how best to promote the flypast e.g. http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/newsItem.php?id=797
So far only one of NAM's flypasts has a provisional time allocated and even that will only be confirmed on the morning of the flypast i.e. once aircraft serviceability is confirmed, weather parameters are in spec etc.
Always a difficult call, especially if something goes tech and you're left with lots of people waiting en route for something that occasionally goes awry.

Re: BBMF Lancaster
BBMF, and I believe the Red Arrows, used to publish a list of flypast locations en route to and from displays. I always used to check this and on more than one occasion it swayed the decision for a family outing.
Anyone know if it's available anywhere on line this season?

Re: BBMF Lancaster
For most flypasts at Newark Air Museum I’m the nominated telephone contact.
What has happened in recent years has been that you get a call a day or so before to discuss the event with the pilot and get the basic approach details, advised of the eta etc. Then post-flypast you get a follow-up call to check if things were OK.
If the weather is marginal you tend to get advisory calls keeping up to date and in some cases advice that it’s been scrubbed.
Such is the level of service (a brilliant set up over at Coningsby) for one event last year I received a call to say that the original Spitfire had gone tech and the pilot was ‘hurriedly’ finding a spare aircraft – the end result was a delayed flypast, but we were kept fully informed; and the details passed on to the museum visitors!
