RIAT 2014 - News and updates here please

Post by Dunk » Thu Nov 28, 2013 3:02 pm

Thought we might as well open a 2014 thread, similar to this years that Gary started seeing as tickets are on sale…..
Visitors planning to attend next summer's Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, who purchase their tickets before January 7, will enjoy a saving of up to £14 on the price of admission.
Special Super Earlybird tickets go on sale this week (November 19) for next summer's event, which takes place on July 20-21.
In a bid to keep tickets as affordable as possible for its many supporters, we have decided to cap the price of the Sunday admission ticket, adding just £1 on to the 2012 admission price. This means that a Super Earlybird Sunday ticket will be available until January 6, priced just £30.
This compares with the £35 cost of a Super Earlybird Saturday ticket.
Between January 7 and April 3, Earlybird tickets will be available priced £40 for the Saturday and £35 for the Sunday.
After April 3, the standard advance ticket will go on sale, priced £45 (Saturday) and £40 (Sunday). Each order after April 3 will be subject to a £4 admin fee.
The Air Tattoo's Head of Marketing Helen Webb said: "We've introduced the new pricing structure to reflect the growing number of people who are looking for extra-value in these challenging times.
"By introducing specially-priced Sunday tickets and enabling all accompanied under-16s to come in for free, visitors can enjoy one of the UK's greatest outdoor events next summer at an extremely competitive price."
The Royal International Air Tattoo 2013 will bring together air arms from around the world in a celebration of aviation excellence.
Helen added: "Last summer's Air Tattoo was a great success with new aerobatic display teams taking part, stealth aircraft and three new countries participating. We're planning to match all that excitement with an equally thrilling airshow in July."

Personally I have plumped for a Mach 3 ticket (paying monthly) and looking forward to the show.

Will the RAFAT 'Fly the Flag' tour of the Middle East help bring some juicy items our way in return? Not so sure, seeing as we expect everything to come here in return for very little going the other way! But fingers crossed, you never know. The UAE may appear with some mighty fine examples of Fighter aircraft. :pop:

I'd love the Reds and Typhoons tour of Dubai and the middle East to mean we'd get something over here in return but in reality I thought the same about Malaysia this year and that did'nt happen so won't get my hopes up on that front... Anyway with it being a Farnborough year and anniversaries such as the F-16's 40th, Reds 50th and the Hercs 60th then theres the potential for a very good show this year, maybe the Americans to return in some capacity too :)

There is potential for a huge plethora of F-16's of various flavours, hopefully not just from the Dutchies!

Some American based ones would be nice, such as these beauties:

I'd wet myself if we got a stateside F-16 or two over, I know F-16's are common over here but the American based ones are just that extra bit special.. The Shaw and Cannon ones from 97 remain one of my all time airshow highlights still.

OK , I know it's a rumour, but it is a good one!! But I have heard that Fridays special formation (As part of 'The Reds' 50th anniversary ) Is going to be a mass fly past of all the display teams at the show!
As I've said , just a rumour, so don't shoot the messenger!!

Reds 60th? May be celebrating that about 10 years too early!

First kind of update of 2014  From an email RIAT have just sent out
Tom Gibbons, our Deputy Director Air Operations explains;

"By the end of RIAT 2013 the Air Tattoo team had, amongst many other activities, been heavily tasked with the production of a comprehensive itinerary to visit the many foreign Embassy's and High Commissions located in London. This process lays some of the more substantial foundations for RIAT 2014 and serves to demonstrate the value of attendance at the Air Tattoo and to aid nations in their compilation plans for the coming years' airshows.

The visit programme supports the annual campaign of writing personally to the worlds' Air Chiefs thanking them for their support to the previous Air Tattoo and extending invitations to the next. By the end of 2013 the team had completed this series of visits with a total of 43 enormously successful appointments carried out in London. During this period the team briefed the many Defence and Air Attachés and received a warm welcome, generating enormous interest in the operational and public themes for RIAT 2014."

So, rest assured, we are working hard on trying to secure aircraft and as soon as we have any written confirmations we will let you know.

Happy Air Tattoo 2014!

43 hard working lunches, those were the days. Expense account/company limo/business class-1st class air flights :pop:

Good for them! I wish them a fine reward for all their efforts.

If it rains, let it only be on me. ;)

First Update from RIAT: http://www.airtattoo.com/airshow/visiti ... st-updates

A senior delegation from the US Air Force has accepted an invitation to attend the Air Tattoo in July stating that the airshow was an opportunity to 'refresh our professional bonds as airmen'.
We have received a letter from the Lithuanian Air Force stating it is considering sending a C-27J to the Air Tattoo. Whilst not confirmed at this stage, it is a very promising and welcome piece of news.
A delegation from the Air Tattoo visited the French Embassy late last year and reported that a very positive and constructive meeting was held, with the French expressing an intention to support RIAT 2014. The French Air Force will be marking its 80th anniversary this year.
In a letter stating that it was unable to participate in RIAT 2014, the Portuguese Navy took the opportunity to congratulate the Red Arrows on their 50th display season.

That sounds like good news. Thanks Dunk

We could take a minute to remember the four lads from RAF Lakenheath as the USAF a/c fly over during the airshow period.

US participation looks promising, being a Farnborough year should help matters :)

Was hoping the Swiss would attend, as I can't get to their 100th gig in August. Great start :)

Hi all ! I Recently came across this info from the British Air Displays Association website. I was just wondering (correct me if I'm wrong) if this info means that if RIAT wanted to invite say The harrier from the states or the Bucaneer from Africa etc that this meeting would be to get the CAA's consent ?
For the first time the UK air display community will join together in 2014 for a Pre-Season Conference. The Conference will take place at the UK Defence Academy, Shrivenham, near Swindon, Wilts. It will include delegates from BADA, the MAA and GAPAN, along with CAA-authorised DAs and DAEs. The main programme will run 25th – 26th February 2014, with a follow on training programme on 27th February for those interested in participating.
Please find attached the draft programme along with an application form for attendance. As outlined at the Post-Season Symposium last October, Day 2 of the Conference will consist of a variety of seminar sessions which delegates will be able to choose which ones they attend
Again sorry if I'm clueless
Flying prevails whenever a man and his airplane are put to a test of maximum performance.
