Pitching Decks - Landing F-18s on the Nimitz

Post by Knife 04 » Sat Nov 02, 2013 11:47 pm

Good evening

Tonights offering after another trawl on You Tube (with a couple of beers) found this. Dont know if posted before. Navy theme! - 'More scary than flying in the Gulf'

Trying to land (and take off) from the Nimitz when the deck is rising and falling by +/- 30 ft and at night. God bless 'Paddles'. If you enjoy 'boulters' you will love this

Hope you enjoy

cheers

Darren

Hi Darren :P

Another couple of good finds there, buddy :thumb:

My Lord, those Navy jocks are a breed apart :O

Landing on a heaving deck must be THE most scary thing a pilot can do :Wow:

Thanks for posting, buddy

Best regards

Paddyboy

That is a superb footage. It sure gives you an adrenalin rush just watching! You could feel the tension amongst the flight deck crews and the pilots on the ship. Brilliant!

Who needs Hollywood!

They were probably two of the best clips I have seen from ‘Youtube’. Makes you appreciate the camaraderie and what the guys go through. Excellent find. Thanks for posting.

The Whole PBS Carrier series is well worth a watch if you can get ahold of it!

Looking at that I shudder to think what it must have been like to land a Sea Vixen on HMS Centaur at night in bad weather, a third the size of the Nimitz,, especially for the Observer!

Great to watch.
fabulous quote "I worry about some of those pilots, and the aircraft are expensive..."
I'd also like to have the franchise for selling chewing gum and popcorn on that machine !
Critically observing Pension regulatory activity... :D
