For anyone in the Newark area this afternoon it might be worthwhile heading towards the museum – the BBMF called late morning to advise that they hope to overfly the museum with the Lancaster at around 3.40pm today as they transit back from Welshpool & Cosford!

Thanks for the heads-up BBMF!!

Just in case there’s another panic about a ‘Phantom movement’ please be aware that the Phantom (XV490) cockpit that is currently on loan at Newark is due to travel across to RAF Waddington this weekend for display at the Airshow – it is due to travel on Friday before returning to Newark on Monday!

Feedback from the museum this morning is that we’ve already had the first visitors who have given up trying to get into the Waddington Airshow. Plus the museum has been providing comfort breaks for people stuck in traffic!

Some travel issues around Newark (A1/A46/A17 junction) in particular has caused a few passenger delays for the Airshow Helicopter Shuttle; however everyone has now been despatched.

Don’t forget the museum is open from 0800 hours to 1900 hours on both Saturday and Sunday!

An appeal has been posted on the NAM Website seeking information about RAF Winthorpe.

This relates to a few gaps in the airfields story from the post war years – circa 1946 through to 1959, if you think you can assist please check out via the weblink!

This weekend if you’re travelling over to the LLA member’s day at Coningsby or visiting the national ‘Hamfest’ event on the Showground why not consider popping over to the museum to see the Viggen outside?

Aeroboot / Aerojumble and travel updates have been added to the NAM website in this section!

The travel news is particularly important to attendees to the Night Shoot on 5th October and at the Indoor Aeroboot / Aerojumble on 12th October. Overnight closures on the A46 (for the next three weeks) – this could have an impact on evening departures on the 5th and early arrivals on the 12th.

Earlier today the museum formally launched a new fund raising campaign, which although not purely an ‘aviation specific’ project it will nevertheless provide an important support to the museum’s operation and enhance facilities for its visitors.

Entitled ‘Project Panini’ the museum is now raising funds to build a larger and improved café and further details can be found here!

The project already has a small financial start from monies raised at the Indoor Aeroboot the other weekend and if the museum can generate some funds towards this project it will be able to continue with the restoration of its airframes and also be able to consider future acquisitions as and when they arise.
