Japanese Navy SH-60 Portsmouth 22-25 July
Japanese Navy SH-60 Portsmouth 22-25 July
3 Japanese warships are due to visit Portsmouth on the above dates. At least one should (hopefully!!!) be carrying a Seahawk. On previous visits, a Seahawk has been seen on deck and if my memory serves me right, one of the ships departed with it on deck. The ships are on a world cruise carrying officer cadets and always seem to pay Portsmouth a visit. They have opened to the public on previous visits but as the visit is during the week, I'm not sure that will happen on this occasion. I'll update any details as and when it becomes available.
Re: Japanese Navy SH-60 Portsmouth 22-25 July
Looking like arrival date could now be Sunday 21st July.
Re: Japanese Navy SH-60 Portsmouth 22-25 July
One of the ships will be open to the public on Wednesday the 24th,hope that helps

I believe it's the destroyer which should be carrying the SH-60. Rumour is it's open 1000-1600 on Wednesday as stated by bizfreeq. Ships anchor tomorrow, Sunday, at 0730 and enter harbour Monday at 1100. Departure is due on Thursday 25th at 0900.
Re: Japanese Navy SH-60 Portsmouth 22-25 July
They are currently anchored up out towards the isle of Wight, visible from southsea, currently nothing up on deck should coming into port around 1045 am tomorrow according to the local paper and OHM will try and get down there as long as me lilittleun plays ball!

SH-60 on Isoyuki, visible through open hangar door on entry.
Re: Japanese Navy SH-60 Portsmouth 22-25 July
Isoyuki is the ship open to the public on Wednesday so the opportunity will arise to get up close and personal with the SH-60, hopefully it will be pulled out of the hangar for the occasion.

SH-60J is reported on another forum to be serial 8290 from 22 Kokutai.

Just been to see this but unfortunately it's tucked away in its hangar and difficult to see, no chance of confirming it's ID.
Re: Japanese Navy SH-60 Portsmouth 22-25 July
That's unfortunate, maybe they will put it on deck for departure tomorrow morning at 0900. I was unable to make it today and can't make it tomorrow either. Hope someone gets lucky tomorrow!
Re: Japanese Navy SH-60 Portsmouth 22-25 July
It seems to be happening alot, foreign navy ships visiting Portsmouth don't like getting there choppers out!
and then a few days later when they are in another port abroad having ship tours, guess what ? the choppers
are out on deck, maybe it the Portsmouth togs swarming over the ships on tour days, that makes the crews lock
away certain equipment.

The Grand Tour.
Re: Japanese Navy SH-60 Portsmouth 22-25 July
A walk to the end of the quay enabled it to be read off, confirming it to be as stated above.
Cheers
