Park and View Arrivals Day

Post by tornado17 » Sun May 12, 2013 7:11 pm

I am attending on the above for the 1st time and I'm after some info. The air show office told me that tickets are purchased on the day. How much do they cost, where are we situated and where do we gain access? Are ladders allowed and are they of any use? As the wife will be with me, what facilities are in the P&V area? This is important to her!!! Any info for this Waddo novice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi.

The PAVE is open from Thursday 4th - to Friday 5th for arrivals and practice displays. - I believe it is also open on the Monday after the show for departures. It is £5 per person each day. It used to be £5 per car but they soon clicked on to the money spinner it can be.

You will most likely enter the airfield via the guard gates on the A15 -approx 200 yds past the WAVE . You pay on the gate. Under 16's go free. It is a great day - I recommend getting there nice and early on the Thursday - I usually arrive approx 8am and stay through till 5pm - at which point they will have started asking people to leave.

Access as I say is from the A15 - Sleaford road. - Head past the gate guardian (Vulcan) and its on the left just past the warning lights for incoming aircraft. From the A1 I would head for the A17 toward sleaford - then A15 to Lincoln.

You can take ladders is you wish - there is a burger van on site and ice cream van but its rather expensive - I recommend taking a picnic as its cheaper. apart from that its a matter of parking up - scanner on - chairs out - ladders up and enjoy the day. You will find plenty of people from FC there. as you are coming from Pompey I assume you are making a full weekend of it?? - I know I am but then I only live an hour or so away from the airfield.

Also if the weather holds out - I would recommend taking some sun screen as it is quite a suntrap.

hope this helps .

Thanks for all the info, it's been a great help and very much appreciated.

We're travelling up pm on the Thursday which will give us all day Friday. Also will be attending Saturday's show and travelling home straight afterwards. Have attended 2 previous air shows but the P&V is a first, looking forward to it!! Hope it's a cracking day and show!

The wife would like to know about the loo situation!! I have told her that if there's a burger and ice cream vans, I'm sure there will be loos, Waddo would not want a few hundred people leaning up against a bush, post or anything else to hand flooding the area out!! Anyway, she would like reassurance in writing!! :pop:

Ablutions will be available I'm sure. They always have been in the past.

Enjoy your visit.

I'll be there on the Thursday - possibly the Friday too -try and catch some practice displays. I will most likely be on my own as the wife will be staying at home (not really her cup of tea).

I'll be close the the A15 entrance (where I parked up last year) - If anyone fancies offering some tips whilst there I am all ears. Could do with getting some pointers on this stuff.

tornado17, no one seems to have answered your wifes important question.

I went for the first time last year and really enjoyed the whole day, with regard to toilets and ablutions etc I did comment that I was most impressed with the fact that even though there was a constant stream of people needing relief, the toilets were kept clean and continually replenished with soap, hand and toilet paper for those of us who do wash our hands !!

I am planning to come on Thursday (Friday is a a possible reserve).

However, I won't be able to get there until 10:00 earliest. Is this likely to be a problem' or is there usually room enough for latecomers? Opinions from seasoned PAVE visitors would be appreciated. I fully accept there can be no certainties with such a question, but past experience is all I can go on to get the best idea.

Thanks.
