She's just been over Gainsborough. Iam sat watching the Dambusters film on tv and she's flies past the window. Shot outside to she her bank to the left and off towards Corringham. Smoking nicely, then turned to Scampton.

as i predicted in an earlier post she did turn up at scampton (but did not land )lovely site and sound and the smell of that fuel as she turned for further pass

Can anyone confirm that this was its first flight this year as I have a friend who says otherwise

Yes today saw the first flight this year.

great to here that they are testing XH558 in time for the season can't wait to see her at RIAT one last time my cameras will be at the ready

Not necessarily the last time - their intention is to fly for as long as possible it all depends if they can do the wing mod.

And get an increase in engine hours sanctioned by RR otherwise the wing mod is worthless...

An interesting point from todays News letter regarding the test flight on Saturday:

Following a lengthy investigation, we are now reasonably confident that XH558 will be granted an Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) rating, a first for a complex ex-military aircraft flying on the British civil register, subject to certain conditions. This means that XH558 should be able to climb through cloud to transit in clear, smooth air above, reducing the consumption of valuable fatigue life. During the flight on Saturday, Paul Mulcahy was able to check out XH558’s performance in climbing and descending through cloud.

Fingers crossed they get that. Can't be much fun flying VFR and getting bumped about at low level during the typical English summer.

According to the report of the talk Dr P gave at the club AGM the wing mod if achievable will give until the end of 2015. I'm sure I've also seen somewhere in the past that other lifed components will then come into play not just engine hours.

I'd have thought they'll have to fly again for more testing/practice within the next week or so as they start displaying for real on the 9th June.
