mound

Post by JMBUK » Thu May 02, 2013 8:04 am

Hi all

Although I goto Brize a few times a week I'm not a local to the area and heard rumors of a mound/field where all the spotters go. If it is true does anybody know the location and how to get to it?

Thanks

James

There is a football field at Alvescot(08 end) that frequently gets used that may be what you heard about.

For 26 approaches. Park in Chestnut Close, Brize Norton. follow public footpath across fields.Goes directly under flight path at approach lights. Eventually goes up hill to a "mound". Not well known but some of the best views across Brize you can get. Even when 08 in use departures are good. Don't go after wet weather tho .. can be muddy..

Fo 26 end you can access the 'mound', which is show on an Ordance Survey map as Lew Hill or The Copse, also marked as a historic monument, via the A4095, there are a number of public footpaths leading to the hill from the A4095. If you reach the church in Lew coming from Brize then you have gone to far, as Mightybees stated it can be very muddy getting to the top of the hill, even in the summer. Great viewing / photographic point.
