On the 1/8/90 a US Army CH-47 tried to lift it out of Mildenhall to Lakenheath however it was too heavy so the Phantom was put on a diet and then was lifted on 18/9/90. I'm not sure how long it spent at Mildenhall though. Still digging!

Thought I recognised that serial!!

I'm a member of an ATC squadron in Sheffield, we have a section of the tail of this aircraft in our squadron. We know someone who used to be a Master Sgt in the USAF and he acquired it when the aircraft was scrapped. We just have a small section, the bit where the ANG crest is. I can get you a photo tomorrow evening if you like?

Just had a look through an old book of mine in which I kept track of latest sightings from a variety of sources (no notes as to which sources, I'm afraid).

This a/c was reported in October 1979 with Michigan ANG and carried the code "20". All of their machines carried codes at that time. Presumably, the sighting was at Selfridge as virtually the entire allocation was reported. Incidentally, this was the only FY64 a/c at that time – all the rest were FY63.

EDIT:- An older similar book (used before transferring details to the previously mentioned one) shows that this a/c was with 35TFW at George AFB, CA (Tailcode "GA") somewhere about late '76/early '77. Sorry, no more exact date.

The Michigan F-4Cs were coded "01" to "20" in serial number order.

Hope that this is of some small use to add to its history.

I know this may only be a stab in the dark but my dad was looking for info on a vigilante aircraft a few years back and a company that make model aircraft decals gave him the info he wanted sadly my dad is no longer with us..sorry if this does not help all the best pom61
