Sigma 1.4x converter. Any users?? Opinions??

Post by PeteHemsley » Sun Jun 17, 2012 3:00 pm

Afternoon all.

What with having the sigma 120-300 OS ready for the show season, I'm just wondering if any of you lot have any experience with the sigma 1.4x converter? I have used the MkII and mkIII canon versions, but I'm just wondering if anyone has used one and would like to share their opinions.

I look forward to your replies, if any!!

Cheers

Pete

What's the best price you've seen for one Pete ?? I only ask as I tried to price one up recently and I couldn't find one cheaper than a genuine Canon one. Or was it just my eyes ?

I've got the Nikon fit 1.4 and 2.0 The 1.4 is very good indeed, no noticable speed difference in focus and still pretty sharp on my 300 f2.8 Sigma. The 2x can take a while to focus and is noticably less sharp - as one would expect really.
Hope this helps
Ed.

Got the 1.4x on the end of my 120-300 2.8 Sigma non o/s and get some cracking sharp shots, so a thumbs up from me :thumb:

Go for the Sigma 1.4 DG, the DG works better with the Sigma DG lens.

thats what i was thinking! it worked fine with the canon versions, but just think it could work better with the same branded gear.

there's some on fleabay for around £180 so about the same price as the mkll canon 1.4x

cheers lads

Reading over on POTN, lots of people think the Sigma 1.4 will just edge the Canon 1.4 II when you couple the Sigma converter with a Sigma lens. The concensus seems to be that the 1.4 III is better than the Sigma, but not enough to justify the extra cost (I only bought it out of impulse!).

Use a Sigma 1.4x with the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and it is great, still sharp and fast

Here is the list I mentioned

The 120-300 is F/2.8 through the range and will definitely autofocus with the Sigma 1.4 and 2.0.

You want the new DG version to match your DG lens.
The Canon mk3 is very good but at a price.
