If it is ZG478 that would explain the hideous damage to the airframe there, i did chuckle at the AAI report, where the pilot reported that 'one of the engines had failed'

I was drawn to "Old Gits" pictures of WV787 at Abingdon. and the comments that it was ok Newark had saved it. The story NOT told is what happened in between.
The RAF Blew it apart for BDRF training despite our writing to request the planned explosives be used on a less "rare" aircraft. Over a year later NAM were contacted
to enquire if they were still interested in purchasing the airframe, now with 5 x holes you could walk through and literally thousands of small holes as well as lots of
BDRF patches which are designed to get an a/c home, not to look pretty!
A decision was made that 787 WAS a unique aircraft and should be saved so an offer was made and accepted and the job of moving 2 x 20ft wide loads and 1 over 60ft
long was undertaken. Once back at Newark it took nearly 10 years to complete the restoration and even then it was outside for all this time, eventually the rebuild was
completed and she languished outside, BUT, Newark was working in many directions and the completion of its 2nd large hangar allowed this unique example to be
displayed undercover. The private owner of the Canberra agreed to donate the a/c to NAM which encouraged the National Lottery Fund to donate a large amount towards the the cost of the hangar, where XV787 can be viewed inside and looking very much like the Photograph taken by "old git" nearly 30 years ago !!!
Remember ALL Museums need your support to keep them going and help to put these a/c undercover it all takes TIME and Money

I'm probably totally wrong, but did WV787 spend some time at the Sunderland Air Museum before returning south to Newark, I seem to recall reading this somewhere?

I was there back in April '09 and there was a Skyvan fuselage, Viscount nose, some other airliner jobby nose and most surprisingly a battered fuselage section of a MiG-23! I've only been back at the weekend since then, when the yard's closed, but it looked like most of the aircraft were now gone.

This former target tug Meteor T7 was parked over on one of the disersals at North Weald which we were using during a vehicle test programme back in September 1976. I think maybe the local ATC may have had a connection. Did it survive ? or does anyone know what happened to it ?
