Re: Northrop, BAE To Team for USAF T-X Work.
Interesting how the US major companies are each partnering in international companies and neither are doing it on their own.
In my opinion you really cannot beat the Hawk for fast jet training. The agility matches many front line fighter aircraft and in some cases out classes some front line platforms, not only that, the ceiling is world class and so is the flight characteristics. It is no wonder the USN went with the T-45 Goshawk.
Would be very interesting to see Hawks in Aggressor markings!

Re: Northrop, BAE To Team for USAF T-X Work.
The Hawk has undoubtedly been a success story and clearly is an outstanding advanced trainer. But can it match up to the new supersonic 346 and T 50 types it is now in competition with in the international markets? Is there a need for a trainer to be supersonic or is it window-dressing?
I would love to think it can still cut the mustard, but I don't know for how much longer.
Opinions?

I don't think a trainer needs to be supersonic, a trainer isto train, landing, takeoff, stalls, spins, navigation etc. Supersonic therefore isn't required.
I would be McDonnell Douglas will build the T2 Hawk.

Remember that Northrop built the T-38, that's supersonic and is used for a whole host of different training tasks! Be interesting to see if they stick with that as a concept going forwards...
