Saw quite a bit when i went too.
F18s outside the hangar, a few CASA's and C130s and a few different types of helicopter.
Of note, every night a C130 or CASA would take off at sunset and fly up and down the coast looking for immigrants in their boats from Africa. Was nice to sit and watch it.

Ala46 relinquised they're F.1's some years ago, replacing them with a squadron's worth of ex-US Navy FA-18A's.

I went there a few years ago, saw the Hornets hugging the coast twice, with, the S-61A-4 (not a Sea King) was around quite often, including an intercept of a boat in co-operation with the Guardia Civil patrol Boat one night. Also had the SAR AS-332 buzz the beach at low level one afternoon, and the CN-235 (usally one dispatched at a tme to cover the Canary Islands) was around nearly every day. Also there is usually one F27-200MAR to cover the maritime patrol duties.

Can anyone confirm what viewing facilities are still available at Las Palmas/Gando/Gran Canaria please? as I haven't been there for about 10 years.In the Terminal there used to be an outside viewing area upstairs signposted as 'Terrace' I believe, which was behind glass,and also a restaurant Airside? plus views from Departures.
Also are the Hueys still at Los Rodeos on Tenerife and are they viewable?

This LOG was one from several trips over the years.
Viewing was into the Sun and behind glass so not any good for photos.The mil stuff used the far runway and the civvies the near one.Most of the Mirages were in the HAS site so you had to wait for the Mirages to fly, which they seemed to do twice a day.More Mirages were seen on other occasions,with up to a maximum of six a/c per day.

It is still very easy to spot and shoot pics at GCLP judging by the shots you see in Airliners Net etc.
The "spotting places" are actually marked on Google earth.

Its a lot longer sice i was there and i remember walking from terminal to the souther end of the runways but if you have a car its very simple.

EC-KEM should be the based CN235MPA but carries its cn 103 on the nose. Google the reg and see if its the right one.
