Re: HobbyBoss Tornado
I made a few comments about the kit last week in the Reviews section. You're quite right that most of the external stuff isn't relevant but you could indeed build it in "clean" configuration if you haven't got the relevant parts in your spares box!
The tailplanes do need to be re-shaped at the extreme edges and the kink in the leading edge ought to be a little more pronounced. The really annoying bits are the clear parts which are a bit disappointing - canopy isn't deep enough and the windscreen shape is wrong. The flap detail is wrong too and then there's all that silly rivet detail to get rid of...
But yes, there's an F3 kit on the way so I guess it is worth buying if only so that you can have kits of the IDS and ADV which are based on the same moulds. Having said that, I'm guessing that Italeri will release their F3 kit eventually so it depends if you prefer the cheaper Italeri kits with a little less detail, but with a better overall shape, or the more expensive Hobbyboss kit with some better parts. There's advantages and disadvantages to both kits really and I'm rather disappointed with the Hobbyboss kit - it's certainly not the "perfect" 48th scale Tornado we were hoping for. I guess Revell might come to our rescue one day...

Re: HobbyBoss Tornado
My view if your looking for the almost perfect Tonka is to get the Italeri IDS and combine it with the Flight Path set at £35.Expensive i know but not many if any after market companies can beat Flight Path. That is what i will be going for to make my IX Sqn aircraft as "TI"
Re: HobbyBoss Tornado
I guess there are many ways to obtain a top-class Tornado in 48th scale but none of them is cheap! I suppose the way to get a really good Tornado is to just build the Revell 32nd scale version which is as good as it's ever going to get, Tornado-wise!

If you look down the page at the IDS/Marineflieger shots there's a couple of useful photos there

Re: HobbyBoss Tornado
I must admit the 1/48 Flight path set is cracking. it is unfortunate that there is no modelling Tornado GR4 model out there, however this can be reproduced in great accuracy, but this comes at a price.

The 31sq. Goldstars includes Dave Parkins fantastic set, a whole load of Paragon Parts and cost around £80. It all depends how much you are willing to spend. Saying that, I heard that 1/48 Hobbyboss kit was supposed to be good>???

Have a look at Airliners.net - if you type the serial into the photo search engine there's 29 photos of ZD739 on there at the mo.
