I think it's just a symptom of human nature. You can wave buckets around all day but most people will just walk by even though they're probably more than happy to donate. Tickets for the shows are the only way you can guarantee that everyone pays a small proportion of their ticket fee to support one of the main acts. Surely, if everyone was told that a couple of quid on their admission was going to the Vulcan, they'd think that was fine. But shows just don't entertain such radical ideas, sadly. They think that paying the appearance fee is their only responsibility and that's it. Fair enough, technically-speaking they have no obligation to do anything more, but morally-speaking you would think that they would be capable of getting-together to support what has been the biggest event on the air show scene for a couple of years. They'll be the first people to whine when it's gone, claiming that they can do nothing more to bring us the aircraft we want to see, blah, blah... and yet they will have indirectly contributed to the Vulcan's premature retirement by passively sitting-back and allowing it to happen. If only they were willing to see the wider picture, the funding saga could be resolved easily at no great loss to anyone, and we would all be happy for a few more years - organisers and spectators alike. It just goes back to my long-held assertion that show organisers are shamelessly hypocritical in some respects. They claim that although commercial success is their primary objective (of course), they also do all that they can to cater for the interests of enthusiasts. They don't.

I wouldn't be happy about it, I know a few other people wouldn't. Besides, the likes of RIAT is already expensive enough and I doubt the Vulcan being there would make that much difference to their crowd numbers!

As an aside, how to other European shows make money, aren't a lot of them still free/dirt cheap?!

Its interesting that "we" wouldnt be happy about it, but then RIAT charge over £40 a ticket anyway and we dont know the breakdown of where that money goes so if £2 on each ticket went to the vulcan and it wasnt listed, you wouldnt be any the wiser! I think where I was coming from was that in that if you created a "preservation groups tax" that was split up at the end of the season it could be charged as part of the fee, and all the money raised would be split amongst the member groups for their winter service etc.

I dont thing we should be too persuaded by what we and our friends think either. Chris, if you showed me your mates who wouldnt be happy to pay, I bet another person would show me their mates who would be. This thread sort of sums that up. But thats not the big picture. If you totalled up the amount of people who say yes or no to it on this and other aircraft forums, you probably wouldnt come to more than 2-300 opinions. This is the people who eat, sleep and breathe planes.
What about the views of the 199,000 people who attend RIAT but dont do the all year round thing? These people dont get disappointed because there is no Mig 29 in tiger scheme, or Tornado role demo. They look at an advert and see Vulcan = load big plane. Not as deserving as us to shape the ticketing prices? Or perhaps more likely to be happy to donate? Its a long debate, which I think will never be concluded.

Not easy to track tonight due to the route and the fact that she stayed below 3000 feet a lot of the time....

Here's the return trip

Can any one recommend a good place to watch her take off from at DSA? Is there a viewing area?
Or is it just park up on old bawtry road where ever you can?

You'll need a large ladder or the ability to shoot through chain-link fence. 58mm diameter just about right. :halo:
EDIT: Keep a close eye on events as I'm not sure she'll go up.
MISSING - x1 Air Force.
If found please return to the UK.
