OK I'll type this nice and slowly so that you may try to deem it worthy of a reply !!!

If you don't pay your entrance fee , then there is no money in the pot, if there's no money in the pot the organizers will not be able to pay for any thing !!

So how you can feel you have the god given right to slag something off that you've not paid towards is beyond the comprehension of my self and loads of others.

To put it another way, stop being a tight ar53 and flop your wad on the counter, then you'll have the right to tell us we're wrong.

Okay, overlooking the insulting language, it's like this; you don't have to actually pay to attend an air show to have a view on it. Simples.

Yes you do !!!!

If you were to alter you're mindset you would realise that to have any form of negative opinion on anything you firstly have to contribute to it in the first place.

If you were in anyway a sports man, a professional rugby player for example, then you'd be hellish annoyed that someone ,who can't even play the game, deems themselves the worlds authority on the subject !!............Simples

When I was a kid I'd go and sit in the farmers field at Bassingfield (Nott'm) to watch the Tollerton Airshow, but wouldn't dream of slagging it off at school on the Monday afterwards, I was just happy to have been there and seen it in the first place.

I think perhaps, you have therefore missed the point of what I've said. Oh well, never mind.

Well I for one will be looking forward to this, never seen the thunderbirds before and never seen the norweigean vampire pair. They still have 45 minutes of flying to fill according to silentflight on UKAR who I believe is one of the organising members and he is working very hard for all of us attending. Not long to go now just about 4 weeks. :)

For me i will go to the show what ever will be there, but i do think everyone has the right to an opinion! Yes no one can really argue that the Thunderbirds and Vulcan has saved the show (in the sence of attracting the crowd) like Sheff said, also you can not really say the team are not trying hard to get participants to this years show, the main factor is that airforces have a choice where they want to participate and for some Waddington is not there choice.

All we can do is wait and see what the final list turns out to be!

Sheff who i assume is not attending the show actually speaks for quite alot of people this year and have seen this over various forums. But when they post there opinion they are slashed, not saying you cant argue there opinion but dont make it a personal matter!

29 DAY LEFT!

It's okay, I have broad shoulders! Naturally everyone has a view but I'm just genuinely surprised by what seems to be almost blind optimism from some people. I suppose there's nothing wrong with that either, other than that it's a bit like a case of the Emperor's New Clothes... everone keeps saying that everything is great until it's too late...

sometimes think it would be better not to know what is attending show and wait to see what touches down on arrival day or wait to see what is parked up on arrival to the show ha ha,that way we wouldn't be disappointed when something cancels, but guess we just can't help but check for updates daily! really think the Bronco is a great addition to flying display not something you see very often :)

at the end of the day, if you dont like whats going to appear at the airshow then dont go, its really not that hard to work out! i dont understand why some people are being such drama queens!!
im going because i generally LOVE anything that flies and is noisey! so its a win win IMO.
yes im gutted there is no typhoon display etc but jesus there is PLENTY more stuff flying!
im travelling over 100 miles to get there plus accomodation and to be quite honest i cant wait!

Okay, I'll answer point by point to save space! :-

And these same people always turn up each and every year. If they didnt, how would they know what to complain about?
If you mean me, well I do turn up most years, but I watch from outside. It's cheaper, easier to get in and out and (most importantly) one can get far closer to the aircraft. I also read magazines and the internet and talk to all my colleagues, which enables me to get a pretty comprehensive view of what different people think, not just forum users.

Numbers are down??? where Sheff??? Show me the proof.
I don't recall saying that spectator numbers are down. Perhaps you meant my assertion that they will be down before too long, unless the show is given a thorough shake-up.

how can the RAF provide more
Lots of ways in which this could be achieved. We've discussed this at huge lenth on this and other forums. The notion that a show would somehow drain resources from our "brave lads and lasses" is just Daily Star-esque throw-away comment which nobody ever bothers to think-though.

The Vulcan shall be here for a few more years yet
Goes back to what I said earlier. It will be a miracle if XH558 returns for next year's season. The odds on that happening must be close to zero. Might scrape through into 2012 but even if it does, then what? I agree with you that it is a crowd-puller. That's the point. What happens when it's gone? Much as I'd love to see a Buccaneer or Harrier (and I'm pretty sure that we never will), the majority of people wouldn't care one way or the other. Another jet warbird is not going to rescue a flagging air show.

Let's be honest about this. I take no pleasure in the depressing state of Waddington's show, RIAT, etc. I'd love to have a great show to go to. But continually claiming that the show is great no matter how dull it gets, justs makes matters worse. Heaping praise on the organisers is no way to make things any better.

either way, your not putting anything into the charities
Couldn't care less. I'm looking at this in precisely the same way as the organisers do. It's a show for which the punter pays. If the show is rubbish the punter is entitled to say so and keep his money in his wallet. It really is that simple.

i dont understand why some people are being such drama queens!
Perhaps you're confusing the term "drama queen" with "realist"?

if you dont like whats going to appear at the airshow then dont go, its really not that hard to work out
Obviously it is difficult to work out, then. You need to grasp that simply not going doesn't make anything any better. Highlighting the show's deficits could encourage others to voice the same opinion. One day it might just persuade the organisers to do something about it while they still can. But the attitude seems to be that while there's so much as one jet to be seen, the show will be hailed as magnificent. I just don't see the logic in this at all.

Anyway, we go round in circles. I've replied at length simply to explain my position but I do accept that most of the forum users are devoted air show addicts, so it is pointless to argue about this matter. I suspect that whatever I said, it wouldn't change anyone's view so I guess the best I can say is that if you think you'll enjoy the show then that's good - have fun!

That just about says it all really.

My old man once told me "You can't argue with ignorance" so I guess we'll just stop this argument !!

enough said.

well no its not really that hard to work out at all really... seeing as you watch from the outside, you havent bought a ticket therefore have the very easy choice on whether to turn up or not after seeing the finalization on what is going to attend the show. as i said before, if you dont like what aircraft are attending then just dont turn up.

MOST of us are paying a MERE TWENTY POUNDS to get involved with the airshow and see our airforce and other countries forces display their millions of pounds worth of aircraft with what they have available at the present time, which i know isnt as much as it used to be a couple of years ago but there was no lybia missions etc back then!
im just glad there is an airshow.

and yes i will have fun, thank ya ;)

I'm not going to bother pursuing this as this patently isn't a discussion or even an argument. It is the same people repeating the same silly comments which achieve nothing other than turning a potentially useful discussion into a waste of time. Shame really, it could have been interesting.

Does anybody else get De Ja Vu? :S

BTW I am not having a pop at anyone here, opinions are opinions, I don't have one on the subject apart from the fact that due to working for myself and not being able to take holidays without losing money, I generally only get to see anything flying at airshows so I will be going no matter what.

We have this same conversation or thread year on year, to be honest guys its getting boring, almost Tennis Umpire-ish, this way then that. I only check the thread while on the forum to see if there is anymore news on whats coming, but no, its just quote after quote on he said then she said... with the odd update.

What I would suggest is this, Mods, just lock the thread, allow another thread to be started up purely for whats confirmed, whats cancelled etc etc and put an end to this. Keyboards all over the country would breathe a huge sigh of relief....

Can anyone remember the days before the dreaded internet when you just turned up at arrivals and show days and what was there was there and what wasn't, well, wasn't....

Shutting up now before a horses head finds its way to Sheffield, the home of the quietest skies in the UK.

Hilarous. Another forum user who wants a thread locked when it doesn't contain anything he likes. As two other bright sparks have suggested, if you don't like it, don't read it? Or better still, say something useful? Just a thought...

Sheff, me old fella,

Its not that it says anything I don't like, it just doesn't say anything useful to me when I am having a quick check to see if anything has been updated. Bunfights are bunfights, they like most things in life are inevitable. You surely must admit that you are sick of repeating yourself, quoting yourself etc etc, there are valid points being made on both sides of the fence but for me its boring and if anything in danger of wandering off topic.

Kevster! :Wow:
