Re: Balderton A1 Lightning.
The 'attitude' might be related to the ongoing battle with various planning authorities to get the site cleared - plus half-term, owners grandchildren?

Re: Balderton A1 Lightning.
It’s my understanding that many parts have been ‘liberated’ over the years for some very worthy projects.
I gave up trying to seek its ‘release’ from captivity many years ago!

Re: Balderton A1 Lightning.
My photographs of the aircraft have been widely published - last time out in Aeroplane, linked to a feature they ran using Google Earth; no come back so far.
I would qualify previous comments by saying that that no 'donor parts' have made it NAM's way!
This might fill in some details!!

I get my shots while going past at 70mph from the passenger window (not while driving of course!)

If some 14 year-old had spoken to me like that I would have been more inclined to slap him, rather than have a conversation with him

Re: Balderton A1 Lightning.
I've heard tales about the place before but I haven't been to have a close look for many years. The last time I went in to photograph the wreckage it was already beyond saving, so I can only imagine that it is even worse now. I think the guy who owns it is probably best ignored. The poor Lightning is way beyond any hope of salvage so I guess it's best to leave him and his dear children to get on with their bizarre lives!
Re: Balderton A1 Lightning.
Will probably see it in a new TV show "My Big Fat Gypsy Lightning".
Sounds like someone after what ever he can get, he obviously has no regard for what is an iconic Cold War Interceptor.

Perhaps the link that explains the site situation at Balderton was too subtle for some in post 6 so I’ll repost it this way http://www.newarkadvertiser.co.uk/news/ ... f42bfb691d

Re: Balderton A1 Lightning.
Sad news. Shame it wasn't donated to a museum years ago instead of being left to rot by its owner.

In the long run it's probably for the best, removing the eyesore from the side of the A1.

As a former RAF Gutersloh bod (1970-72) I very sadly have to say RIP, she did not deserve to suffer such a prolonged death

It's so nice to be insane...nobody asks you to explain.
Re: Balderton A1 Lightning.
Time to focus on supporting our remaining Lightnings such as the superb examples at Bruntingthorpe.
