Air Force One et all

Post by RRconway » Thu May 26, 2011 3:40 pm

Hi All,

Somehow managed to fall out of the house at 5am this morning to travel to Stansted for the first time to see Mr Obama and his fleet of aircraft off.

Thanks to those gave me advice for today.

The weather was 'interesting' with wildly changing light levels a very strong breeze and they have a lovely fence, which was fun!!!!
Anyhow thats the excuses out of the way here are a few of the pictures, sorry they are not A1 but a nice record of the occasion.

First up after the helicopters arrived, (which I completely messed up), was one of the 757s with The President aboard.

Then the 737 presumably with 'everbody else' on board.

Next up the 747....
Pushing past one of the locals.

Then finally the second 757, I think they waited for the other two to arrive before leaving.

Hope you like them. Certainly a first for me.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Hi Jeff,

Well worth getting up at 5am to catch that lot. Just out of interest just how many helicopters make up the Presidental group. I image that it must make an impressive sight as a group, but I have not seen any pictures. Do you have any of the group that you are happy to show?

cheers

Robin

They look a lot, lot better than mine.

I decided not to bother bringing a step ladder, as I figured the police wouldn't be keen on it, so shot through the fence - turns out there was very little police presence other than the Copper-Chopper.

Thanks for the comments everybody.

Robin, I think....there were 7 in total, they came in two 'waves' first two Sea Knights and one 'Sea King' or VH3 with one of our Police Helicopters.
Then, one Sea Knight with the second VH3 and another Police Helicopter. I say I think because I'm not sure that one of the first Sea Knights didn't go around to escort the second VH3?
Somebody did say there were some Chinnocks as well, but I definately did not see those....bet you wish you hadn't asked now

Definately worth the early start and journey though, doesn't happen that often!!!!

Rgds,
Jeff.
