Libya Update Thread - 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Still reports even from the Rebels that they shot down the Mig 23 which was their own side.
This could be the fear that the rebels fire upon NATO aircraft.
20 French aircraft are now over Libyan airspace conducting operations with the French Rafale (I assume) taking out a Libyan vehicle.

Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Libyan MiG-25s haven't flown for years. They were dragged out of the hangars for enthusiasts to photograph a few years ago, but even the Libyans were saying that they were out of service. It will be exactly like the Iraq situation. Gadaffi has stated that his air force remains grounded. I can't realistically see his air force getting airborne to challenge anything now that the NFZ enforcement has started. If they do take to the skies and present a problem then Gadaffi will simply have his runways/intersections plinked. He really hasn't a hope of putting up any credible defence and he knows it.RichC wrote:French Air Force are stating that they have now recce'd the "whole" of Libya this afternoon.
So, one of the bases in the central southern region of Libya has Mig 25s and other aircraft stationed there so why haven't we heard of any Libyan interceptors doing CAP over Libya?

Aljazeera showing footage of French Rafale's launching with a three tank fit and AA missile fit from St.Dizier.
Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
BBC news reporting that the US have mentioned that they have 3 subs in the Med. After getting a bit irate listening to Tim Marshall on Sky News earlier banging on about the US will no doubt use cruise missiles anytime soon, I guess he may now have a point!

1950: In a statement outside No 10 Downing Street, Prime Minister David Cameron says British forces are in action over Libya tonight. He says it was "necessary, legal and right".

Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Cameron must mean the E3s etc, so I don't think we've seen any fast jets head that way, from our side anyway.
Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Trafalgar class submarines have lauched Tomahawks at Libyan target as well
