The work is beginning now with the concrete plants being set up on the sports field.

Was there a reason why Boscombe cannot be used for the Voyagers?

Surely the reason is lack of a passenger terminal. Voyager ops will require an airfield with a terminal, customs, and freight handling facilities which rather narrows the field.

but what are the chances of large hangars at civilian airports being free and nothing in them?
Prestwick is down to seasonal Ryanair flights these days as far as I'm aware, and they have their own hangar (someone local will know for sure) and the amount of commercial flights are a fraction of Edinburgh and Glasgow's. As for maintenance, Canada has three permanently based CC-130 that rack up a heck of a lot of flight time, plus regular CC-117 deployments that all need to be maintained, and I can't see the RAF moving the Voyagers up if they also can't maintain them on site.

Prestwick already provides a lot of ground services for NATO and other militaries - https://prestwickaviationservices.com/military/

Will Prestwick be as secure as Brize.........................................seems two Voyagers were damaged overnight at Brize.

Because it and the hangars are already in use? and lacks the infrastructure? maybe

They have temporarily placed a couple of them at Stansted in the recent past when there has been runway work at Brize. Obviously no non-commercial hangars there though, but perfect for trips into town. :halo:

Well they'll be better protected than at Brize. ;)
