Slogen51 and the Trump thread

Post by Hurn » Fri Feb 28, 2025 7:23 pm

So it seems the only person who can make a comment in the Trump thread is a certain moderator, who sticks his beak in and then locks the thread again.

What a total farce and not the way to run a forum! In fact I'd go as far to say Mr Slogen is acting exactly like Trump in this instance.

If there's an issue with that thread, then it should just be locked and deleted. It's ridiculous to have it there so a single person can abuse their position and just vent when no-one else can put forward an opinion.

Agreed! And where are the other Moderators, why are they silent with this obvious two-tier application of standards?

It's that one sided 'freedom of speech' Mr Vance was warning us about!

🌻 🇺🇦

Certainly not democratic. I would suggest that most members would like the opportunity to comment freely with sensibly applied moderation to maintain the forum rules.

Note to self. Take screen shot of post to remind me that i did post this.

I'm glad others feel the same. Whether you like Trump or not, it shouldn't be a one sided conversation that only one person can post in.

Coming to Slogans defence here, the thread was locked on the 17th February. I was away when it was locked so I cannot comment on the specific reason but I had personally moderated the thread several times as it became argumentative. The board software is set up to allow moderators to post in locked threads, this is a feature of PHP bulletin board and not something we have configured. I strongly suspect that Slogan posted in the thread without even realising it had been locked as there would be no warnings the thread was locked when he posted.

The moderators all work for free and in their own time doing the job for the benifit of the members. Its an aviation board and a majority of the moderators would like to delete the general thread becuase its where we spend most of our time and nothing to do with military aviation. The reason the section still exists is becuase we dont know how to remove it without potentially crashing the board ..... If it was easy and we could be sure we wouldnt kill the board then it would have gone long ago.

That said I will now lock this thread becuase I have already wasted 10 minutes of my life that I wont get back on sorting this out. If anyone has an issue with this approach then they are free to delete their accounts and leave the room.

I do apologise

The thread is locked - moderators can for some reason add to locked threads without having to unlock them - I simply didn't notice that the thread was locked

I must admit I thought it was odd that nobody had commented on the Trump news conference but rather than create a new thread on Mr T I simply posted a reply to the existing trump thread as I say without noticing it was locked

I have fallen foul of this 'trap' before and I would much prefer that moderator are locked out of locked threads.

By the way I didn't ask to be be a moderator I was asked a few years ago if I would volunteer to moderate as I obviously make quite a few postings - mainly in the Lakenheath section which is my nearest airbase - and FC were then short of a moderator or two. I am quite willing to step down no problems - then I can say what I really think and be moderated :D

Wtf

This thread is locked!

It is not immediately apparent when a thead is locked

I do think in general chat that the bar for argumentative chats could be raised a bit to allow people to express their views provided they are not abusive or more seriously in my view of a bullying nature - i cannot abide bullies

I think it would be good to a) forget Slogen's mistake, b) reopen the Trump thread with it being up to the membership to keep it civilised and make supported arguments rather than bitch at each other. (I'll try!) as it is getting rather scary and could have a serious impact on our hobby.

Anyway - looks like the Yanks are beginning to realise the mess they have made in voting Trump and Vance in.

Some US media outlets now refer to him jokingly as President Bob… (big orange baby!).

Oh really?!
By what stretch of the imagination do you elevate your personal opinion into a realisation representing American electoral opinion? And then use the failing BBC as a reference? Strewth!

Hi Slogen51.

I too would like to apologize. I didn't know that mods could still post in threads despite them being locked, so it looked like you were abusing your 'power' to open the thread for your own purposes and then locking it again. Obviously that would seem to be quite unfair, so I called it out.

Now we have the facts, and it appears there are no underhand shenanigans going on, so again apologies. Hopefully this can be avoided in the future; although it seems a bit daft for mods to be able to keep posting in locked threads as it clearly causes confusion to us 'regular' users.

Regards.

No one seems to realise this

If there is a minerals deal, it will be in Americas best interests to protect said minerals. Thus, a minerals deal comes with embedded security gaurrntees!!!

Same with the semiconductor factories in Taiwan.

This isnt rocket science

Zelesky is so focused on Putin he can't see the wood for the trees.
