Nice,

Great selection of visitors, was one of my favourite bases to visit in my early years of aircraft photography.

Enjoyed these very much thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing these with us, great shots and nice to see the Italians. I visited a few times and recall seeing the based F-16s, during that brief time they were based.

Really miss Bentwaters. A day up the road to Wantisden Church always brought you close to the action.

You bet, very close indeed. Was great there when they had the low wooden fence😉

Absolutely. Think it was the last holiday I had with my dad & mum. We were driving around the countryside and Dad had obviously noted jets descending into the countryside somewhere and took the plunge by taking the small track down to the church.... and bingo ! What a find, couldn't believe these fantastic F-4C's taxiing by so close, even better than our beloved Binbrook crash gate. Dad was used to being my taxi up to see the Lightnings.
Once I eventually got my own wheels I made my own journeys to Binbrook and then after a bit of an exodus all the way down to Bentwaters but Phantoms then the A-10 era... what a sad loss to the spotting community, jets and the base. :'(

Was a place in the middle of nowhere indeed. First visit was in 1978 they flew the F4D. Was there on my BMW motorcycle and because of that had a few visits of the security police. They liked my motorcycle and had a good banter with them. Told me an upcoming deployment to Spain. Next morning saw some 24 F4's leaving for Zaragoza.

Cheers,

Does anyone remember the diving board in the pond by the church - with an (empty) drop tank keeping it afloat? Good old days!

Brilliant post - thanks for sharing. Bentwaters was, and still is, a great place to visit!

A shame about the '111 nose being slightly cropped - I bet if you check the neg it is well within the frame! The joys of the printing company and their cropping - remember this well!

Please post more if you have :thumb:

My first visit to Bentwaters was in 1992 sadly it was a Friday afternoon when we called in during a family holiday in East Anglia, but still managed to see a few A10s in the circuit and an MC130 in the pattern. Great shots , thanks for sharing .
