Tour of HMS Prince of Wales - Liverpool

Post by James Cutting » Tue Nov 19, 2024 2:21 pm

Not sure if the right place, but sure many may well be interested. HMS Prince of Wales will be in Liverpool next month, with ticketed tours (for a grand £1.75) will be available:

https://www.cultureliverpool.co.uk/hms-prince-of-wales/
HMS Prince of Wales is returning to Liverpool this December and members of the public will once again be able to go on board and view one of the most powerful surface warships ever constructed in the UK.

With an expected service life of up to 50 years, the floating cities of the Queen Elizabeth-class are highly versatile and able to meet the widest range of tasks around the world.

The ability to move 500 miles per day – combined with the speed and range of the F35 jets – means these carriers can react at very short notice and make a difference around the globe.

Transforming into a force centred around carrier strike – The Royal Navy supports ships as they conduct carrier strike missions, enforce no-fly zones, deploy Royal Marine Commandos, deliver humanitarian aid, and build international partnerships with allies.

From Saturday 7 until Sunday 8 December 2024, you can step on board at Liverpool Cruise Port, explore the impressive aircraft carrier and take the opportunity to talk with members of the crew.

Tickets are available now for a small fee of £1.75

Well that was a surprise to me! It feels like finding a secret passage from the library of a mansion that leads to the local tavern!

Probably be rammed anyway, with every man (plus his dog, wife & screamin' kids in tow). Always happens in Liverpool, can never get near the place on these occasions. I might venture out to New Brighton Beach or Fort Perch Rock for a shot of her coming in on the tide, hope the weather behaves. Then again, it depends on what time high tide is on the 2nd Dec, for example it could be 10pm or 10am.

Brilliant news.
Even if tickets are sold out its still impressive to see her from the dock side.

Last time she visited we were there in time to see the F35 flypast.
To those not familiar with Liverpool the famous Mersey ferries run regularly and often cruise alongside [ subject to restrictions] visiting vessels.
Please note that the Seacombe Ferry port is the only one active at present on the Wirral side , as the historic Birkenhead Woodside ferry / port is closed for refurbishment.

B*gg*r! Missed the arrival again, lovely bright morning too :( , never mind. When was the scheduled arrival changed, and was anyone fortunate enough to get a shot of PoW from New Brighton?

Due to an Amber Weather Warning for strong winds, public viewing of @HMSPWLS has been cancelled for Saturday 7 December. The @RoyalNavy, along with @Global_Ports and @lpoolcouncil sincerely apologise for any inconvenience – your safety remains our top priority

A real shame, but safety first, of course, and you can't change the weather. I was set to take some RAFAC cadets for the visit but as the weather turned out (and with the M62 closed) we were all glad we stayed at home!
