Bodo (Norwegian Aviation Museum) visit 11/9/24

Post by bvs » Thu Oct 03, 2024 10:37 am

We did a 2nd trip to Norway this year - flying Aberdeen - Bergen and then driving north over the first week up to Bodo (and slightly beyond) once north of Trondheim we were mostly on the Fv17 ,crossing into the arctic circle on the Kilboghavn - Jetvik Ferry (spectacular - one of the highlights).Our furthest north point was approx 67deg 35' 29''.
Photography in the museum is not easy since the lights are left 'off' :lol:

We drove a RAV 4 on the trip - here outside the Bodo Museum

It is a striking Building - shaped kinda like a propeller from above, the central Glass 'Hub' has the old Bodo Control Tower perched on top and it straddles a busy road - so you can sit in the Cafe looking down on the traffic.

Data Plate on a licence built Siddeley Panther - built at Horten - most of the Factory/Seaplane Buildings are extant and part of a museum (must try to visit sometime :) )

This Catalina is immaculate and under cover unlike the shocking state of the poor Cat at Cosford :'(

Lovely diorama of Woodhaven Seaplane Base (Fife) - the building on the right still extant.

Very nice indeed, as you point out, great shame about the lighting.

Thanks for sharing these with us, my last visit to Norway was in 1988. A few of those shown here were in the museum at Gardermoen then. Maybe if I get a good lottery win I could afford to revisit the country again. Some nice shots here, although as previously stated the light isn't great.

Thanks Amp and M531 :) - the pics were taken by my OH - she was using our very old Canon G15 which actually takes pretty good pics in low light,but overall it was a lovely museum to visit - the aircraft and other artefacts obviously take priority - which is not necessarily the case in our own museums in this country.

Lovely cafe as well - the Daim Cake was gorgeous :lol:

Lovely pics. Like Mustang, I went to Gardermoen. Made the mistake of buying a round of drinks in the hotel. Still on financial recovery!!!. :D {just one of the things not to do in Norway!}

Thanks R9
I usually drink Cider or Vino Collapso whilst in Norway,it is strange though - they have a large cider producing area especially around Hardangerfjord and yet we never saw any local cider for sale in any of the supermarkets we used,they seem to stock a lot of Somersby Cider (Yuk) or if lucky some Bulmers which is quite nice.
