SR-71s - Det 4, RAF Mildenhall

Post by Knife 04 » Sun Sep 29, 2024 2:37 pm

Lucky enough to have been gifted a large box of slides and slowly making my way through scanning and processing them - think this may take some time!! Also have some a large folder of black & white negs

ImageSlides! by Darren Currie, on Flickr

Some real gems in here and loved every second of scanning to see what the next one will bring! All boxes labelled as are the majority of the slides - A-10s, F-111s, 135s, Lightnings, A-7s, C-130s, F-117s to name a few scanned so far

To confirm I did not take these and they are from the collection of Richard Minter and appropriately watermarked. Richard has kindly given permission to share these

I will post shots as and when but thought I would kick off with some of the SR-71

Ah, memories of random visits in a Ford Capri too see what was in, saw SR-71s airborne a couple of times, very lucky indeed. Lunch on base at Micky's.

Smashing set of images - look forward to seeing what other gems are in the collection. The head-on shot is particularly nice (taken from the old cement works I think?). Thanks for sharing these.

Not always a labour of love doing these slides!. When my best friend died, [David Reader, may have been known to some of you on foreign trips] I found he had willed me his slide collection. 110,000 slides!!!!!!!, yes 110 thousand! plus innumerable books. Sadly, I just called a dealer who bought them. I didn't really want the money, I just wanted to be able to put my car into the garage!!!!.

Brilliant!
The SR-71's were always a joy to see and marvel at their amazing demonstration of power.
I also love the tail shot of the KC-135 in the background of #9 sporting the old unit colours on the fin.
A great post and I very much look forward to your future contributions from that mysteriously looking box of slides.
Thanks for sharing them
Best regards, Terry
