Lossie 77-78 German visitors

Post by toom317 » Mon Sep 02, 2024 2:04 pm

Some German aircraft that visited. The Hansa Jet and the Huey were the only time I saw these types at Lossie. Starfighter 26+06 was the aircraft that had the emergency and had to turn back to Lossie, and I've included a couple of pics of it post accident. This ended up on display at the airshow a few days later. Judging from the number of pics I have from the period, the Germans were the most common visitors during my time there.

Great stuff yet again, yes the Germans were very common visitors to Lossie probably on a daily basis in some form or another. Can’t recall ever seeing a ‘Gina’, but did see plenty of ECM Hansa Jets over the years and the Canberra’s could’ve passed for locals.

In my very first notebook, on the first two pages, dated 21st and 23rd July 1975 I have noted 2 TF-104s and a Do28 Skyservant.

Along with Jaguars, Phantoms (RN + RAF), Hunter, Gannet (COD and AEW), Shackleton, Heron, Pembroke, Victor, Buccaneer, Whirlwind, F-111, Nimrod, Harrier and a JP.

And the only fence was a wooden one you could sit on - oh for a decent camera (well any camera!)

Good stuff. Can anyone tellme, when you've gone to the trouble to camouflage your combat aircraft, why slap on acres of dayglo paint?

Thanks for sharing these with us, great shots and plenty of classic fast jets too. The Hansa Jet is one of those types that always seemed to turn heads. I did see a few civil ones, nearly all the German AF ECM aircraft, but the only one I saw that was operated by the FBS was 16+03 at Heathrow on 14/10/82. I believe there was a restriction on them operating into Northolt which was the cause. Really enjoyed viewing all your offerings.
