Graham Thorpe

Post by Philly1971 » Mon Aug 05, 2024 7:03 pm

Absolutely devastated to see the passing of Graham Thorpe. A brilliant batsman for England and Surrey, who saved us countless times during his long England career with his brilliant and determined batting. A classic gritty left hander who averaged over 44 in test cricket. Also always came across a quiet and unassuming man.

I always looked forward to him coming in to bat. Very sad.

Same here. One of my favourite batsmen of his era. RIP Thorpey.

Suicide apparently, due to ongoing serious mental health issues.

Very sad. Happened to my father when I was 23. Despite all the help, determination usually succeeds.

The incident becomes even more tragic. There is now the involvement of an innocent train driver who will have to live with this for the rest of his life.

Well said PLMC. A side effect that a lot of people would not think off. Many years ago, as a relatively new Police Officer, I recovered the top half of a 27 year old woman from a railway line whilst some of her dribbled down my legs. I grew up pretty quickly that day!!. I was 19. [Counselling? didn't exist].
