14 Squadron Crusaders

Post by Ravendriver2008 » Sun Jul 28, 2024 12:25 pm

Words fail me, as complainant within the squadron or RAF says the nickname Crusaders is offensive to Muslims and names been ditched.

Makes me wonder why on earth the complainant joined the military? How have we evolved to the position that the alleged feelings of one person carry such weight?

Pathetic! The start of another rash of adaptions to suit an overly sensitive minority. I'm certainly against all changes introduced NOW to re-write history! :grr:

It is incredible - they should have stayed firm and refused

Hope we now don't have to rebrand the England flag used by Richard the Lionheart during the crusades - while we are at it we could introduce a few more colours from the rainbow .

Quite concerning that this bedwetter has been allowed to join the air force in the first place, if they’re getting upset over an old name then how are they going to cope with annihilating people?

There is a professional football team in N Ireland named Crusaders , based in north Belfast, guess they will have to rename themselves should a single person be offended .

As a Veteran with over 30 years service, I find this whole business a disgrace. The fact that a serving ( allegedly Aircrew) person made this complaint makes it all the more ridiculous. He should be reprimanded not patted on the back. A Squadron's whole identity is built up over decades and should not be censored in any way.
I imagine the next beercall will be fun.

There are rugby teams, cricket teams and football teams in USA, Austrailia and New Zealand that have removed crusader from either their name or logo already.. so it's not a one off.

Will the Test Match grounds ban the fancy dress groups who go as Crusaders?

VMFA-122 were ordered to ditch their nickname "Crusaders" and revert to the "Werewolves" and then changed back to their original "Flying Leathernecks" so it's not unique to 14Sqn. It's just a name, if it causes upset then change it, times change.

The Daily Express logo must be getting a bit concerned too.
