The chipmunks have been up a few times for crew currency and I think the Dakota went up once last week for training, in the hope the Lancaster could be ready for RIAT but I think that was always very optimistic.

Think we are still a long way from anything that resembles what we've been used to with them sadly.

From what I was told the other day they still have no answers as to what caused the crash and I can see the fighters being grounded for the rest of the season. The hope is they can get the Lancaster signed off to return to flight before the end of the season. the chipmunk has been up this morning and the Lancaster was doing engine runs yesterday.

My thanks to you all. The sky over RAF Cottesmore will be empty this summer.

Patience. They will be back when they are ready. In the mean time theres plenty of Spitfires at Duxford and a Lancaster at East Kirkby to support.

Quite True Enobob, But Is the airspace above Cottesmore also 'closed'? Consider for instance that the Red's still use/d the airspace over Scampton even though
they base out of Waddington & Scampton is no longer an Airfield. ;)

Quite often the airfield is used as a waypoint by aircraft returning from the West Country. Also the Reds come by as they did on the way to fairford. Not often do they trail smoke as they did this last time.

I've been looking at the BBC news website and there's an item just appeared, stating that the Lancaster has been cleared to restart participating at shows etc.

I think it might be on the bill at Old Warden's 'Family Show' this coming weekend :thumb:

After an extensive major maintenance programme and detailed safety assessment, Spitfire PM631 is ready to fly again and will soon take to the skies for the first time since 2021. PM631 is a later mark of Spitfire which is powered by the Rolls Royce Griffon engine. Merlin powered Spitfires and Hurricanes remain on a flying pause whilst the investigation into the Spitfire accident continues.
